Yeah, this is pretty much impossible. Though you could use a prism to separate the ambient light in the room and, using that, you can actually determine the chemical makeup of whatever you're pointing the prism at. Since smell is essentially molecules that are loose from whatever emitted them, this works. It's just not perfect.

Besides, why would your project need to know what it smells like in the room you're in? And this would require specialized hardware- your computer isn't set up to do that.

Taking off the mod hat and putting on the scientist one for a minute: We do have a “Connecting to the Physical World” forum section, so it wouldn't be appropriate to dismiss any new block ideas on the basis that it requires a sensor and/or other extra hardware. If anyone has ever had a chance to tinker around with micro:bit, you'll find that there are specialized Scratch projects based on very niche things like temperature, heart rate, and light. I can think of a few ideas where the ability to detect odor could be used in a project.

Maybe there might not be something that is as good as a human nose (after all, even national and international standards mention use of having a dedicated group of sniffers to detect and describe odor), but smell blocks would be something to eventually consider if someone develops an e-nose that works with micro:bit or other compatible hardware for outside sensing.

Sadly, my forum signature was eaten by an evil kumquat.

Correction: I mean that we need a properly-working e-nose device that works with micro:bit or other Scratch-compatible hardware first.

Electronic Nose (That's what I think because when ever I see e before something, I assume it's something like electro, electronic, electric, or something with electricity)

According to this website I found

Electronic noses rely on chemical vapour sensor arrays that respond to particular stereochemical characteristics of individual molecules such as VOCs. Data obtained from the sensor array can then be analyzed by statistical or structural algorithms to discriminate and identify volatile patterns

Don't really know what any of that means because I never bother to do research on this stuff, so don't ask me anything about what this means.

This means that the topic got moved from the Suggestions subforum, where it was originally, to a new subforum.

technically your nose is just a very rudimentary particle detector, so… actually, i dont know.
