Hello Scratchers (and New Scratchers), welcome to the STEM Discussion forum!
This forum is mainly used for users to talk about any projects they are developing related to STEM. It is also where I'll post any recent news concerning the studio ‘STEM Studio’ by @UnscrambledEgg . Despite the discussion forum designed for users to talk about STEM Studio, feel free to talk about any subjects related to STEM! You can be as silly as you wish, however, there are boundaries. You cannot spam messages, you can't be disrespectful to other Scratchers and you cannot advertise UNLESS you are advertising a STEM project. STEM projects can be advertised here and if you want it to be added to STEM studios, feel free to ask! (You can also ask if you'd like to join and a manager or host will add you)

What is STEM?

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. These 4 subjects relate to each other because they all use logical reasoning. We need STEM in our world because they help with advancements in the future. It's needed in everything from fixing a broken circuit to creating artificial living things!

Stem is important! For example, my observations of conway’s game of life witch is mathematical show cells made of cells that need to eat still lifes or oscillators and poop what they eat! It’s similar to in real life but, and this might be surprising, it’s completely deterministic! These calls can also reproduce! And also you only need a random pattern! And it’s artificial real life like life! If you wanna simulate Conway’s game of life, in my signature, there’s a link to life viewer where you can simulate lot’s of cellular automata with the default being the automata that we’ve been talking about! To find a cell, look for a constantly changeing and seemingly unpredictable part of the simulation and zoom into it. The rest you can figure out(that’s how I did it) Also, I had a life viewer tab open when this was posted.

Let me talk about a stem topic called animatronics. In my tail simulation project, the thing works like, say a tail or a strand of hair. This is animatronics. Animatronics are used in movies to make effects which are impossible in animation. Animatronics can be thought of as Animation + mechanics + electronics. My project is simply animation+mechanics.
So if a control Point is moved, it will make a delay to move in its desired spot, otherwise, it will become a straight tail which cannot bend. The more the delay, the more flexible it appears. So in the end, that looks like a real tail. Some other applications of animatronics are an animal face which could change its face or a horse which can move.

Thank you for your time in reading this

And CGI is computer generated imagery. When it was invented, tron movie light cycle clips could be made in one day!

My school actually has STEM class as a specials class!

Moving to @Honey_Dreamz. Active on here sometimes, though.

Yeah! STEM is a really cool ‘subject’, and it is actually been taught in my school!
Here's something which I guess is about STEM:
Graphene is an amazing substance. It is only 1 atom thick, and is considered to be (one of) the only 2D object(s)! This is so called an allotrope of Carbon, which I found pretty interesting. The people who discovered it in around 2004 won a Nobel Prize in 2010. They did it using a surprisingly simple procedure: stick a piece of tape on some graphite, pull the tape off, and then stick the tape together in half, repeat the process until you got a (still visible) 1 layer of Carbon atoms! This is graphene. Graphene's structure is composed of connected hexagonal-shaped Carbon rings, similar to some other substances. Graphene is really elastic, and has extremely high hardness (you won't believe, but it's even harder than diamonds!), is a really good conductor of electricity, (kind of) transparent, and extremely light! All of these useful properties make graphene may have some important uses, and will be a huge step in technology.
Graphene isn't used much for right now, except for some special research purposes, however they do have a lot of potential uses! Space elevators may now become true with this single-atom thick allotrope of Carbon. Phones that can bend may be sold in the market, touch screens are now more easy to use, armors and shields now are way harder, … Graphene may even solve the water crisis of the world! Scientists have looked at the properties of graphene that may extract pure water from seawater easily, using some techniques within the process.
Also, I'm looking for substitudes for plastic (like bio-degradable plastic). Because of its flexibility, it could potentially be suitable to make ‘graphene bags’ from it, and perhaps it could even solve the world's plastic problem! I'm not sure about this, but it could be a good guess.
I hope that's an interesting topic, I spent like half an hour writing this!

Check out my profile! At there I make games, animations, …

And there’s other 2d molecules that have more resistance and people have made artificial atoms with currents!

Apparently this chemical lab (https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxy.canberra.edu.au/projects/719137725/) is crashing in turbowarp -_-

LabelOS is a cloud project i'm working on, go check it out!
It's here:
https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxy.canberra.edu.au/projects/749672725/
Also there is a BUNCH of filler on my profile, i'm basically just taking a really long break from making complicated projects.
I'll still be updating a few though!
also, [@coolcoder1213] makes good projects, check them out!

I also heard that there are many formations of carbon that take on interesting properties. One such formation is called a bucky ball. It is a carbon formation of a ball and may be used to store fuel, similar to the protein ferritin in eukaryotes that stores iron.

Have you heard of carbon nano onions? They are produced by heating up fish scales, for unknown reasons. They could be vary useful and have layers of carbon, getting progressively smaller. This makes them look like nano onions.
