Don't check the wiki, people are raiding anything AAI2 related:What are they? How does everyone feel about the new localized names for AAI?
*Sebastian Debeste/Eustace Winner is currently a blank page titled “Useless Wiener”
*Blaise Debeste/Hugh G. Winner's bio describes him as a p3do
*and more
(Edit: Someone restored Eustace's page and set his name to “Ryan Gosling”… lmao)

I think Verity is honestly the best new name. I like Eddie Fender enough but it just doesn't suit Tateyuki as much as Raymond Shields does.I'm sorry the heck kinda name is Eustace Winner??Raymond Shields is Eddie Fender, Sebastian Debeste is Eustace Winner, and Justine Courtney is Verity GavèlleWhat are they? Idk, I like it. “Winner” can also be interpreted as “Whiner”, therefore “Useless Whiner”, while still keeping the sort of “victory” theme that the name Debeste had. Sue me, but it has more meaning than the fan translation name imo.I'm sorry the heck kinda name is Eustace Winner??Raymond Shields is Eddie Fender, Sebastian Debeste is Eustace Winner, and Justine Courtney is Verity GavèlleWhat are they? I'm still conflicted. The new names are nice- as I am kicking myself I didn't think of a cool name like “Eddie Fender” first, but say that I'm used to them, I still really like the old names. They were a little less punny (except for Courtney. Verity is 100x better), a little more unique. And that kind of fits with the theme of the main characters having slightly normal names that don't necessarily have to sound like a word or a phrase, since they show up in more than one case in one game. (I mean, I guess this principle doesn't apply to all characters. Gregory doesn't have a pun name, yet he only showed up once before AAI2 in the same way characters like “Celeste Inpax” and “Jack Hammer” did, and Regina Berry showed up twice in AAI2.)I think Verity is honestly the best new name. I don't mind most the new names actually.
But Eustace is actually rancid.

Should we just make a pact to continue calling him Sebastian? I don't mind most the new names actually.

In case anyone is interested;
The name Eustace means ‘grapes’
The name Sebastian means ‘Honored’

Honestly I can't say I like the name Eustace, but I can say that the name certainly does have more meaning. It can also be interpreted as a double meaning like the Japanese name. “Justice Winner” and “Useless Whiner” are of course what they could be interpreted as.Idk, I like it. “Winner” can also be interpreted as “Whiner”, therefore “Useless Whiner”, while still keeping the sort of “victory” theme that the name Debeste had. However, I personally think the named Eddie Fender and Eustace Winner sound a lot more like one-off witnesses or defendants in a random filler case than any main character names. They honestly just sound like side-characters to me.
Like Cap said, their names are a bit too punny. Though that doesn't mean that they aren't perfectly good names as well.
It may just be because I'm used to the old names, but idk.
(That being said, Capcom was kind of forced to change them.)

I wonder if Capcop will add some references to the fan translation, like they did for “Dollie” in T&T.Honestly I can't say I -snip-like the name Eustace, but I can say that the name certainly does have more meaning. It can also be interpreted as a double meaning like the Japanese name. “Justice Winner” and “Useless Whiner” are of course what they could be interpreted as.

Honestly reading all the discussion about the names made me realize how good the fan translation did at naming them all, they all sound like such official names.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the official version gets mods to match the fan translation, at least for the names, but I'm sure people will get used to them… eventually. I can only imagine how weird it must be for people who've been so used to the names for years…
