it has been stated clearly that the first username would still be visible and wouldn't go away. there would be no reason for problems like impersonation to happen because people can see your @ handle or your username.

-loves are for you wanting to show your support but without having it on your profile
and changing names are useful for people who have gone by a different name since they created theirs. we should not have to make a new account for this

For your reasoning, yeah scratchers can be stupid but i’ve already decreased the number of where my nickname will appear so confusion would be at its minimum. if they still get confused it’s how their brains can’t work properly

the original suggestion puts the username at too much places, sometimes without even the username, as for mine, the nickname ALWAYS goes with the username to avoid most of the confusion, and sometimes it doesn’t even show nicknames. i believe that’s enough to avoid confusion for the *ahem*, average minded people

This would make it much easier for users to know what to call someone, in the case that they have a long username and are trying to talk to them.

In my opinion, a cooldown for display names would be really useful, since users can make inappropriate display names and then change it super fast so the Scratch Team can't punish them without going through a long hassle. I think displays should only be changable once every 7 days. A cooldown ensures that users actually think about what their display name is.. Of course, silly names are fine , but when there are too many of them, it's not really funny any more and is just a bit chaotic. By having a display name, users can change their online identity without shifting their content with them.

I agree I originally thought of 30 days to make the nicknames quality better but that works too

Users probably won't get confused if it's clear. I had a few minutes to spare so I made a quick mockup on Pixlr E.

By the way, @iiucandyfloss is me, so obvi that account is okay with being used in a mockup

Note: I selected a very large dimension size when editing, and I have to go back to my file folder and crop it and reupload to fix it. I don't have enough time for that, so there will be loads of white space. Please ignore that.

Anyways, the mockup shows something that says a nickname, with, in brackets @username. The @ symbol clearly represents a username in Scratch, so there is almost no way for someone to be confused. It's a very simple concept. Scratch's targeted audience is 8-16. 8 year olds are not necessarily individuals who lack intelligence or the ability to grasp simple concepts. They can grasp the idea of a nickname and username.

We all know that. However, a lot of children use Roblox, and most of those children are younger than 8-16 (Scratch's intended demographic). If this system is understandable on Roblox, it'll be just as understandable on Scratch.
