July 8th Daily
(Warning, this story may be confusing. There is a prequel here for more context https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxy.canberra.edu.au/projects/1044536777 . Thank you.)
Sunburst bounced her tail up and down, sitting on the rooftop of a low building to watch the multitude of humans walking the streets, some holding balloons and others with tools and helium tanks. Much like how they used to enjoy watching her, she loved watching the humans migrate in flocks down the empty streets of the parade route, bringing tribute to their parade balloon queen. She heard bouncing from behind her, and turned around to see Lynn the Lepidoptera, bouncing over to her as she flapped her helium filled wings. “Oh! What are you doing here?” “I'm here to watch the parade too.” “Really? It's getting late.” “I could say the same to you.” Sunburst paused. The giant moth had a point. She'd been working a lot and came to watch the parade to wind down. “Come on.” Lynn said. “You've got to be tired, with being the queen's personal assistant and all.” Sunburst shrugged. “I think I'm fine. I enjoy it really.” “Just because you enjoy it doesn't mean you shouldn't rest.” “I guess so.” she stretched out, making a lot of latex squeaks. “I guess I'll go to sleep. Do you mind watching the humans to make sure they don't make trouble?” “Yeah, I've got it.” Lynn nodded and Sunburst smiled, waving before bouncing off. Typically the parade balloons were too light to “walk” so they ended up “trotting” in a way. Like skipping, but for four legged creatures, at least for Sunburst. Other parade balloons moved and got around differently. She casually knocked over a building, putting it aside and curled up in what remained, soon falling asleep.
Sunburst woke up to an itch on her foot. The sun was slowly rising and despite her lack of a sense of smell, she felt something was wrong. She looked at the itch, and was dismayed that it now had writing on it. Someone had spray painted a message to her paw while she was asleep! If only she knew what spray paint was. Or if only she knew how to read. Hmm… she knew who did know how to read though! Owloon! He was smartest of them all, and one of the few who could actually read. She got up and stretched, her tail making another building lean precariously, before wandering the city streets, looking for her friend.
Sunburst searched for a long time, calling his name, but wasn't looking where she was going and got wedged in a narrow (for her) alley. She squirmed with the loud noises of her latex body rubbing against the glass buildings, but eventually she heard a familiar voice calling her name. “You need some help?” “Oh! Owloon! Helloooo nah I'm fine, I'm totally not stuck with no chance of getting out on my own-!” She gave a not very convincing smile and he covered a squeaky laugh with his wing. “I can see that.” “Okayyyy help me out.” She relented, and he happily obliged, flying behind her and giving her the push she needed to get unstuck. “Ah… there we go.” “I heard you were looking for me.” the owl noted, watching her. “Oh! Yes!” she remembered, sitting up a bit more professionally. “I found this on my leg, do you know what it is?” He tilted his head. “Here, let me see it…” He took Sunburst's leg, looking it over, and his expression grew more stressed the more he read. Sunburst looked worried. “W-what is it…?” “I… Oh dear… I don't know if I can say that out loud?” “Is it… bad?” She asked, and he nodded. “Oh yes, quite bad, quite bad indeed.” “What does it say?” She asked, feeling the tension rising. “Um… you see well… the individual who made this seems to… oh dear… they seemed to have called you an… airhead-” Owloon barely whispered that last word, but Sunburst instantly became enraged. “THEY CALLED ME WHAT?!?” her body swelled in pride and anger, furious. “WHO DID THIS?! I WANT NAMES!!” “C-c-calm down, I'm sure they didn't mean it- Or they don't know what that means- or-” Sunburst smashed a building to rubble, before running down the street, filling up with more hot air as she hunted down the vandalist who had left the literal but hurtful message.
(Guess what you think the idiom is before scrolling down)
(Okay I'm assuming you've guessed. It was “inflated ego.”)

Prompted Word War w/Herm
7/8/2024
276 words
All my life, I longed for it to come true. Now it finally has.
I take a look at my watch again, disappointed to see that the secondhand is moving slower than I would like and the minute hand is pretty much stagnant. I sigh and look back up down the street, my feet bouncing my body.
The bus isn't here yet. It's two minutes late already, and I have yet to see the bright blue.
I'd been waiting for this moment for… well, I'm not actually sure how long I've been waiting. I've wanted this for so long, so the fact that it's come true hasn't quite settled in yet?
I look down at my watch again. Three minutes.
It's about time that I get on my way to go to the arcade. the special one that's been in town since forever, but I've never been able to go. It's not like anyone else at school has, but it is very important to me. It's been said to have mysterious abilities. And the fact that most people come out of it richer than they've ever been doesn't disuade me from going.
I've been sending letters begging to be invited there ever since I found out about it and I could write decent letters. Thank goodness Mom didn't let me send the ones I wrote when I was 6… Yes, invited.
It's this weird status quo thing, they don't invite certain people under criterias that they don't think align with their “brand”? I'm not sure how /to/ fit into that brant, but apparently I fit it enough just perfectly this time around to get the pass

daily july 8th: go down in flames
“So!” Evie grinned wickedly. The three of them were sitting cross-legged in the damp grass, their bicycles a heap on the ground not too far away. Their heads were leaned in to form a messy circle, like they were discussing the most top-secret documents of the age. “What do you think of doing a play?”
Rosa sighed dramatically. “Why, though? It’s going to be hard, and no one’s going to come–”
“Yeah they are, stop being such a pessimist,” Evie insisted. “Jess?”
“I kinda want to agree with Rosie, but at the same time, what else are we gonna do over the summer?” Jess pointed out. “Come on, it’ll be fun!”
Rosa rolled her eyes, but smiled all the same. “Ugh, fine. I want a singing role, though!”
“Amazing!” Evie screamed excitedly. “Yes, of course, sure, you’ll do wonderful! Um, now for the planning. I want to write, if that’s good?” The other two girls nodded vigorously.
“Obviously,” Jess added. “You’re the only good one. Next, a place. There’s an outdoor community theatre that shouldn’t be too expensive? We could each pile in, and that’d be the bulk of the cost. Costumes, make-up, props, could all be handmade - we aren’t really trying to go for clean, more fun, right?”
“Costumes!” Rosa said happily, brightening. “Ooh, my closet’s been waiting for this.”
Jess gave a thumbs-up. “Okay! And casting! Us, clearly, and maybe some friends? Auditions would take too long, and I don’t like the idea of working with some random people we might know–”
Evie laughed. “Oh, this is going to be superb.”
Casting went easily enough - it wasn’t hard to get the rest of their friends to pitch in, most of them were delighted to have something, anything to do purely for fun. The script was written and edited quickly, featuring a fun and wholesome fantasy adventure. Soon enough, their cast/friend group had become one big family, closer than ever, which was a nice bonus.
Rehearsals were usually at one of the girls’ houses, and often ended in something fun, like a movie night.
After a particularly eventful one, Evie whispered to Rosa; “How’re you feeling about this now? I remember when you were against it just a bit ago!”
Rosa chuckled. “Oh, it’s plenty fun, sure, and not as hard as I’d imagined - it doesn’t stop me from thinking this’ll all go down in flames once performance day comes on!”
They all just laughed, appreciating their friend’s usual playful negativity.
“It’s finally time to open the curtains!” Jess whispered excitedly. “The moment we’ve all been waiting for–”
“Shhh,” Rosa begged, but her eyes were shining as well. She peeked into the sea of audience members, which wasn’t much, although still slightly anxiety-inducing. They were each deeply grateful, still - it was a wonder more than their parents and non-performing friends had shown up. The posters must’ve worked.
Evie began her narration, as planned. The funkily-dressed characters son waltzed onto stage and said their lines, all like in the sketch. Overall, things went well for a good 20 minutes.
It was at that point that Jess started to smell smoke. Confused, she turned on her walkie talkie, broadcasting to everyone who had one at the different points of the stage; “Uhm, chat? Is everything fine?”
At the same moment, one of the tech crew practically screamed into the device: “No! Our audio set’s on fire!”
Jess held the thing away from her ear, using her hand to mute the crackly audio. “Oh, what,” Evie muttered, and the two of them dashed for the opposite end of the stage, costumed and all.
Long story short, tech crew hadn’t been lying. Luckily, no one was hurt, and the fire trucks arrived promptly. Still, their first night had been cut short, and the theatre had banned them from ever returning once their rent finished. ‘Irresponsible teens these days’, and all that related nonsense.
In twenty years though, they’d laugh over it. “Hey, remember that summer play we did one time back in the day? Yeah, haha, it (lit)erally went down in flames!”

daily 08 - make an idiom literal - 457/400 words
chosen idiom - it costs an arm and a leg
“Goodnight, Winnie,” I tell my youngest daughter as I tuck her into some warm blankets.
“My name is Elowyn, Papa,” she giggles, enjoying my use of her nickname.
“Oh, is that so? Hmm, it seems I’ve forgotten, Winnie.”
“Papa,” my son calls from the otherside of the room. “You mixed up her name!”
I wink, and the children break out into laughter, messing up the blankets I had just wrapped around them.
Annie peeks her head into the room with a smile on her face. “What is going on in here?” She asks, fighting back laughter herself.
“Papa forgot Elowyn’s name!” Oliver says, running towards his mother for a hug.
“Oh, Oliver,” she chuckles, holding him in her arms. “It’s just a nickname, honey.”
We say our good nights and Annie and I tuck in our children once more. I turn off the lights, and wish them sweet dreams, then take Annie’s hand.
“How about a little movie date, shall we?” I ask, flashing a smile her way.
“I think I’d like that,” she replies, grabbing the remote once we reach the living room. We go through several channels, none of them proving to be particularly interesting.
“NATIONAL TREASURE!” she shrieks, clicking the watch button so fiercely I thought it would pop right off the remote.
“Shh, you’ll wake up the kids,” I laugh, amused at her excitement over the movie. She gets excited about a lot of little things, but I guess that’s what I love about her. It’s cute when she jumps up and down or texts me in all capitals. She always manages to put a smile on my face. Annie grins, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm as the movie begins.
“I’ll be right back,” I tell her, getting off of the couch. “I’m going to grab some popcorn real quick.” She nods, but doesn’t take her attention off of the TV screen.
I hear a scream and immediately race to the living room where I last saw Annie. The TV screen is shattered and there is no trace of my wife. My legs carry me to our children’s room faster than I ever thought possible. Everything is a blur as I sprint through the hallway with our family pictures, silly drawings, and even the little dents from a rough superhero game we always play. When I can’t see Winnie and Oliver in their room either, I let out a blood curdling sob.
“Who took them?” I wail, running back down the hallway fueled by rage and rage alone. My vision clears, and on the wall I notice a bunch of large scratches and carving in our wallpaper.
“You want them back?” It reads. “It’ll cost you an arm and a leg, my friend.”

my part for the weeklyyyyyy 153 words
partnering with eevee yay
Cassian had never been here before. The market was bustling, full of new sounds and smells. He wandered around the market, wanting to explore every bit of it, looking around for things he could take home. At every corner, every small space, there were vendors trading and selling an endless variety of products. The streets were crowded, each person focusing on what they came here to do. There were people of all ages, from little kids begging their mothers for more mangos to elders selling knitted scarves, blankets, and hats.
The sunset was casting golden light into the different stalls, making the colored fabrics look like they were shining. Autumn was nearing its end and the warm afternoons spent reading outside would turn to drinking hot chocolate and playing with his siblings. The family would soon need winter clothing, and the market was the perfect place to get some materials for his mother.

cats, dogs and Carlo
Rob yells “Its raining cats and dogs.” I thought that he meant it was raining hard there are literally cats and dogs falling from clouds. I braced for impact, when they hit ground level but they don't splatter? Then A dog falls of my roof it looks like it hurt its self but it landed on some other dogs and cats. At that time I thought that was so cool. But when clouds left there were millions of cats and dogs then I stoped and thought this means that they won't have a source of food what if they turn to man kind as food? Then things got real I called to Rob no response I go to see him outside playing with them I yell “Rob come inside quick! ” He is laughing hysterically saying “ I'm coming I'm coming” That was the last thing I heard him say then a horde of cats and dogs ate him like lions for a gazelle.
I ran for my life this is terrible. I have A flash back of all my fun times with Rob A tear flows down my face. Rob has been my friend sense first grade we grew up together , he had my back and I had his we live together because we were all we had. now I was left with nothing no friends no family. three years later and you are at present time every one went to high ground I found a group of survivors. I stay with them, maybe one day we can save this world…

Weekly pt. 1
I know this is really late, but I'm going to try to speedrun it.
Isla looked up at the starry sky, at the milky way that she could only see when they were here. All those constellations that she and Gramps would find together. She could still hear his voice in her head whispering “There’s Orion’s Belt … and the Big Dipper.
She leaned back and lay on her back, tracing those constellations with her finger. Then the tears started falling. She wiped her eyes, blurring the sky. Tears still covered her face from the recent argument.
Except this was supposed to be a happy place. This little mountain cabin in upstate New York was supposed to be a place of peace away from NYC. Not a place of tears and anger and too many feelings without a place to put them. Not a “retreat” to go on after Gramps’ death. The cabin still felt too empty with Gramps, and yet too full at the same time.

Random Story I wrote (3642 words)
The castle was elegant, and huge. It was designed for all shapes and sizes for entryways and miscellaneous items such as chairs or the silverware. Yet the castle itself was only big, even maglaxies that were dozens upon dozens of feet tall seemed like a pebble in comparison to the gigantic tree that was the castle. Many of its servants even slept within the castle walls, and yet not every bed was occupied. Not every hall had maglaxies running amok. The castle was well built, carved from the mountain that used to be there from millenia before and surrounded by the mountains that stood there for millenia more. Each stone was elegantly carved with folklore and tales of mythology and epics that they have created over their history. Some were painted with crushed up jewels from the mountains that they explore, these precious gems were so common to them yet the castle had the most of it. Some of the main rooms had glass murals; exported from the beaches of other kingdoms. The kingdom itself was located closer to the middle of the continent in the mountainous regions, far from the coasts. The main reason they kept in contact with the other kingdoms and villages was for the exotic goods. Maglaxians were a conservative species, they kept mainly to their own land and didn’t try to branch out into tourism. They honored work and tradition, and only wanted to import raw materials or exotic goods, and refused manufactured goods. They didn’t appreciate the use of technology to such an extent that the others used, and banned most forms from their kingdom.
Jiukoo was a servant within the castle. She was one the maids assigned to cleaning the rooms for the royals. She was young, and small compared to the other maglaxies. The other maids were around her age as well though, a maid was a popular job among younger maglaxies. Older maglaxies tended to be head maid or caretakers if they were still in that industry. The other popular job for older maglaxies was being a merchant, or a builder. Jiukoo was relatively new to being a maid, she got the job a couple years ago when a royal hired her. She wore lots of jewelry, such as necklaces, or rings. Jewelry in the maglaxy kingdom served more of a purpose than flaunting status or wealth, the type of jewelry one wore would also show occupation, being especially prevalent to maids or butlers. Color was a popular distinguisher, along with certain styles of jewelry. Bands with black and white beads was a popular one for maids to wear around their tails. Jiukoo owned one of these bands, and always wore it around her tail, along with other jewelry of similar colors. It was mandatory for servants of the castle to wear jewelry such as that to identify themselves, where in other situations it was often up to preference.
It was morning, a bit too early for the sun to rise just get and way too early for any of the other maglaxies to wake up. The streets within the kingdom were empty and quiet, not in a bad mysterious chilling way, but in a peaceful way. The kingdom was almost on pause, waiting for morning to finally arrive before continuing its day. Some early-rising shopkeepers were heading to the stalls to beat the morning crowd, although the number was few. The servants got up at this time as they needed to prepare themselves before their masters awoke. Jiukoo needed to dress herself, carefully but hastily putting the jewelry on herself. Adding the bracelet onto her tail, and taking the necklace off the dresser she left it on and putting it around her neck. Adding a couple more bracelets, which were huge, she finally left the room she was in. Walking into the hallway was always a breathtaking experience for her.
For one, it was huge. The ceiling reached a hundred feet into the air, any maglaxy could easily stand, and the hall was just as wide, spanning several dozens of feet. This particular hallway left more to the imagination than the other hallways; being further back into the castle came with its downsides. The stones weren’t as decorated as the other, being blank canvases ready for the day they would showcase stories for the rest of time. There were no murals or paintings decorating the wall either. Some of the fancier main halls would occasionally have glass murals, but this hall wasn’t as busy so it wouldn’t ever get one, although it could perhaps get a painting or two in a couple of millenia.
She saw a maid scurrying by as she closed the door behind her, she quickly bowed, “Wonderful morning, ma’am,” She assumed she was addressing her elder, and showed more respect. She didn’t know if she was the youngest servant in the castle, but she assumed so.
“Wonderful morning,” The maid did a quick head bow back, not wanting to disrespect her, but clearly in a hurry.
Jiukoo looked around and turned left in the hall, looking at the tan stones that surrounded her. Another maid approached her from behind, “Jiukoo!” She was more excited she finally found her than to see her, “Hurry to the kitchen, short staffed for preparation,”
“Of course ma’am,” She bowed once more and hurried off. She didn’t dare ask what for, as that wasn’t what she was paid to do.
She glided across the halls. There were a lot of halls, and other rooms she had to go through. The kitchen was closer to the front of the castle, although multiple were built; so food could be cooked anywhere in the castle. Only two out of the five were ever used. The Queen’s personal chef has his own kitchen within the Queen’s chambers. That was only ever used though when she wanted private meals, she was sick, or the King wanted something.
Once she got close to the kitchen, she could see lots of servants running in and out of the kitchen. Because it was still morning they tried their best to be quiet, not addressing each other, walking more than they were running, and still gently placing things down such as cookware. She tried looking for a servant that was perhaps organizing all this but her question was quickly answered as someone ran up to her.
“Clean the dishes, on your left, they must be spotless,” And then walked off, demanding something from someone else. She had no time for honorifics, and ran into the kitchen, trying not to bump into or be an obstacle to anyone else.
She walked up to the station and saw the piles of dishes to be cleaned. They were all very fancy and made of wood, from the trees up north and to the east in the mountains. Perhaps it was a trade deal they made. She quickly shook the thought away, not wanting to get distracted. She started to clean the dishes, using the water bowl to her right, a stone pipe jutted out from the ceiling down next to the bowl, and a little wooden valve sat next to the entrance of the pipe. She’d turn it to let some water drip out of it, the more she turned the more water was let out. She’d shut it off to stop the water.
An hour or two of her washing these dishes went by before they were all clean. The servants over time scurried out when their task was completed to do whatever task they were assigned to before. Once she was done she quickly slipped out and went to the royal’s sleeping quarters. Not the Queen’s, King’s, or their offspring. She didn’t have enough authority to do that, and more experienced servants were assigned to do that. Her duty was to clean the quarter’s of the princesses' cousin, Anau. She walked over to her quarter’s greeting any servants that she met on the way.
She was walking down the halls, glass ornaments decorating the walls, and each stone being carefully carved; until she saw Anau walking towards her, a butler and maid following her. She stopped and kneeled onto the soft velvet carpet. Her head was lowered to the floor, although it wasn’t dismissively shrunk back into her body, but slightly extended, almost asking for approval. Anau saw her and walked a little faster to her, Jiukoo greeted her when she came closer to earshot, “Wonderful morning Master Anau?” It was phrased slightly as a question, yet it was more of a rhetorical question. It wasn’t meant to be answered if Anau didn’t want to answer it.
“Yeah! Are you cleaning my room Jiukoo?” She seemed pretty excited, and pressed her paw gently on Jiukoo’s forehead. In response Jiukoo raised her head slightly.
“Of course, does Master Anau have any special requests to ask of me?”
“Nope! Just curious,” She smiled, walking away. Her servants followed and gave a slight bow to Jiukoo as she waited.
She waited for Anau to be a good couple of paces before getting up slowly. She continued walking down the hall until she was at the room. She walked into it, opening and closing the door behind her.
No one else was in the room with her, and the room itself was huge. It was designed with consideration that Anau would grow over triple her size in the coming century. The maglaxies never slept on traditional beds, but slept in something that closer resembled a bean bag. The bean bag was always huge, and one would grow into overtime. Anau’s bed was in the corner, her furniture wasn’t against the wall, but closer so she could reach it easily. Jiukoo wasn’t much bigger than Anau, she was only a couple feet taller. The furniture was a tad bit short for her, but definitely something she could clean and even use.
Once she was done cleaning she left the room, taking the cleaning supplies which happened to be left in the room with her. It was around the afternoon now and she could start her break. She walked back to the kitchen and entered it. It was relatively quiet, a couple of cooks were making some meals for any servants that came by for their break but nothing major was happening. That was most likely a sign that the Queen was eating out or most of the royals were eating out. She stood in a line behind some of the other servants, waiting to be handed their portions. She soon got her portion, and left the kitchen. It was a big bowl, with bread and fruit along with a small pastry. The dish was made out of stone, not wood, but that was for multiple reasons, the first being that the wooden dishes were always reserved for the royalty and their guests, but also because they don’t have enough wooden dishes for all of the servants of the castle. She walked back to her room, she could’ve gone outside and enjoyed the kingdom’s scenery, but she wanted to be available in case of an emergency. She wanted to get a raise, or a promotion, and the only way to do that would be to show dedication to the job. She took her time eating the food given to her, it was more or less the same each day, but that never meant it wasn’t good. The portions were big, and always tasty.
She walked out of her room and back into the halls. If she was never commanded something to do, she would stand outside Anau’s room until something needed to be done, like clean her room, or carry out a task either Anau, the staff, or perhaps another royal gave her. Although that last scenario was unlikely to happen, the royals tended to only command their own personal servants or miscellaneous servants. She walked over to Anau’s room and knocked on her door. No response. She waited a moment just in case, and was treated with more or less the same. She very slowly opened the door and peaked in. There was no one in her room.
She walked into the room and inspected everything just in case. Everything seemed to be clean and just like what Jiukoo left it as not too long ago. She walked outside and stood in front of Anau’s chambers, more or less guarding it, but not really. Minutes passed, which turned into hours, until eventually dusk was upon them. The day was in the midst of dusk, and Jiukoo saw Anau walking back to her room. She deeply bowed when Anau came by, “Dusk is upon us, Master Anau.”
“Yeah, I’m sleepy,” She rubbed her eyes, opening the door to her room.
“I’ve prepared your chambers for rest, I hope you still find it to your liking,” Jiukoo stopped bowing, but kept her formal position.
Anau made an affirmative noise as she walked into her room, her maid following her in. Anau’s butler stayed outside however.
“You may leave now, she’s going to sleep now and will be in her chambers till’ morning,” He said softly, he looked very tired.
“Of course, thank you,” she bowed her head and walked off, tired herself.
Making a quick stop at the kitchen, she walked back into her quarters and sat onto her bed. She was bunking with another maid but she was on a leave of absence for family matters, leaving Jiukoo to have this room all to herself for the foreseeable future. She ate the food once more, and put the bowl on her dresser, hoping to remember to give it back tomorrow morning. She sleepily started to take off all the jewelry she was wearing, making sure to carefully put it back where it belonged, not wanting to misplace or potentially damage anything. She laid down on her bed, pulling a blanket over herself as she drifted on into sleep.
She was awoken by a servant some time later, they were saying something but she couldn’t make it out quite yet. She got up, still heavily groggy and wanting to go back to sleep, she walked over to her dresser and started to put on the jewelry, “I’m terribly sorry, I couldn’t catch anything you were saying…” She almost forgot what she was about to say next but remembered, “Could you repeat it… Please?” Manners were still important even if she could barely see a foot in front of her.
The servant repeated themselves whispering, “Master Anau vomited last night, we need you to wash her bed and blanket… and perhaps the floor as well.”
“Of course…” She turned and squinted, trying to figure out who she was even talking to.
“Ma’am,” She told her.
“Of course ma’am, I apologize for my impudence,” She finished putting on her jewelry and shook herself, trying to wake herself up.
“I should be apologizing, you’re supposed to be resting and we’re disrupting that,” She bowed apologetically.
“It’s fine, I’m happy to be of service,” She walked out of her room with the other servant, making sure to close the door and rushed to Anau’s room. The servant seemed to follow her until eventually turning into a different hall. Jiukoo made it to Anau’s room, and walked inside. No one was inside including Anau. Which is a good thing, means she’s already at the royal healer. Jiukoo took the dirty blankets and stuffed them into the basket she carried with her. She dragged the bed outside, careful to clean any remaining liquid off of it so she wouldn’t be creating more of a mess. She started to clean the floors first, and once she was done she went to the closet that was built into the wall, sliding the door that almost looked like as if it wasn’t there, the door was made out of stone just like all the other walls it just had an indent that was supposed to be a handle. This closet stored all extra sleeping supplies in case of emergencies such as this, such as two extra beds, and five extra blankets, along with an assortment of other things. She grabbed a red blanket and dragged an extra bed out. Now arranging it into the position that the old one was in.
After all that was done, she went back outside; grabbing the bed first and dragging it to the washroom. The castle was well designed, a tiny flaw in the design however, at least according to Jiukoo is the washroom being across the castle, and mostly outside. She diligently continued to drag the bed across the castle. Another servant who was wandering about started to help her. They dragged the bed into the washroom, Jiukoo put the bed down, faced the other servant and bowed, “Thank you ma’am, I am indebted to you,”
“Oh it was nothing at all, I know how heavy those beds are, hopefully they’ll make lighter versions within the next century,” They stated, and started to leave.
“One can hope,” She said back before stopping for a moment to rest. She was also taking the opportunity to figure out how she was going to move the bed back without dirtying it.
First she still had to grab the blanket, so she went back to grab it. She finally sat down with a bucket of water and soap in front of her. The washroom was one of the more unique buildings in the castle. Half of it was inside, and half of it was outside. Most other washrooms were outside. That was if a house even had a washroom. It was mostly a commodity for first or second status maglaxies. Regular washrooms were outside, with a shaded patio, but the castle’s one was quite more expensive. The castle’s washroom was technically two rooms, as there was a sliding glass door dividing the outside from the inside part. Inside was where you put all your dirty garments and cloths along with the clean ones. The inside part also had all necessary items to wash everything. Outside was where you would wash them. The castle had a small steady stream of water that one could grab the water from, or just wash the cloth directly from the stream.
Jiukoo preferred to grab the water from the stream and use it from the bucket. It felt too fancy to her to wash it directly from the stream. It took her a while, but she eventually was able to completely clean the bed and blanket. While she was cleaning she found a wheelbarrow sitting across the stream of water, most likely built for this exact purpose. She inspected it, and found it clean enough. Not much she could do to clean it but she’d look into it later, definitely not in the middle of the night when the moon is high.
She put the bed and blanket on the wheelbarrow and wheeled them back across the castle to Anau’s room. She slowly opened the door to check if Anau was sleeping before doing anything. The room was empty once more, Anau was most likely sleeping somewhere else if she was even sleeping. She brought the bed and blanket into the room and put them back away into the closet. Once she was done with all of that, she went to the royal healer to check on Anau. The royal healer’s chambers was also one of the more unique rooms in the castle. Her chambers were directly connected to the main room along with all the patient’s rooms. There were no doors between her room and her patient’s room or the main room, but there were cloth curtains one could easily brush aside. Jiukoo peeked inside and didn’t see anyone immediately. She walked further into the main room, and saw a doorway to her right that most likely led to where the patients would sleep, which would most likely include Anau. She turned and peeked through the curtains. She saw the royal healer and someone laying down on one of the beds before the royal healer noticed her standing there.
“What are you here for? Perhaps another tummy ache like Master Anau?” She got up and went up to Jiukoo. She looked her up and down, “You don’t seem familiar… Are you perhaps one of my servants? I often forget who’s who,” She gave a slight laugh to what she said.
“I serve Master Anau, I am tasked with cleaning her chambers,”
“Ah!” She paused, “Oh… were you awoken because of the incident?”
“Yes ma’am,”
She put her paw on Jiukoo’s cheek, rubbing it slightly, “You poor thing, staying up all night washing little Anau’s chamber,” She stopped rubbing her cheek and stepped back. She was quite a bit taller than Jiukoo, so most likely a couple decades older than her as well, “How about I let you have the day off tomorrow? I can have one of my servants do your job,” She flashed a small but warm smile.
“Oh- No worries ma’am, I came to make sure Master Anau was doing okay,”
The healer shifted her stance, she clearly couldn’t stand still for very long, “Ah, well she’s safe and sound here. If you need someone to dismiss you then-” She lowered her arm onto Jiukoo’s shoulder, like a king knighting someone, “And you’re dismissed! Make sure to get some rest sweetie.”
“O-Of course ma’am. Thank you,” Jiukoo bowed her head and left the room. The royal healer waved after her.
“Thanks for stopping by!”
Jiukoo left her chambers, and walked back to her room. It was as quiet as ever, and devoid of any others. Laying back down onto her bed she breathed a sigh of relief, hopefully not every night would be as stressful as that one.

Daily 6: Nothing | 580 words
It had been 562 days since she had last seen him.
She lied flat on her cotton bedsheets, sulking as she stared at the gray, sagged ceiling of her bedroom. The room was dark, with only the distant street light peering faintly through the curtain, reflecting a hint of light in Deirdre's devoid eyes.
Deirdre could not stop thinking of him, for he plagued her mind each day. She felt as if she were cursed by the gods above, but she was clueless as to why.
She turned to her side, grabbing her phone from her bedside table, nearly knocking down a vase that had dried asphodels, peach blossoms, and zinnias. It was his gift to her for their first anniversary.
Deirdre calls the number of her friend, unsure whether she would pick up to listen to her timeless spiel.
Her friend immediately picks up the phone. “Hey, what's up?”
Deirdre could hear the background noise of cars from the phone. “She was outside,” she thought.
“Can we talk, Faye? You know, about-”
“Let it out, Deirdre. I'm always here to listen.”
“It's been 562 days. He's still not replying. I've tried everything, but he still remains in my head. Why must the heavens curse me, Faye? I don't know what to do anymore.”
“He's gone, Deirdre. You must know that. It might not be something you'd want to hear, but he wouldn't have ghosted you if he still loved you. I'm not saying that's his reason, but still-”
“But why must it be so sudden? Nothing even happened to us! It was almost Christmas. I've loved him for four years, and he repays me with this stupid prank?”
She waits for a response, but the phone remains silent.
“Look, Faye, I'm sorry I have to put you through this, but I'm genuinely lost. I can't think straight. You're my only friend now. I don't know if you're tired of this, but I understand if you are. I'm sorry. I'm really trying to change, but-”
“Deirdre. It's fine. I'm your friend, and I'm here to listen, but you have to move on eventually. We both know that this isn't healthy, and I can't help you unless you help yourself.”
“I know,” Deirdre sighs. “Thank you.”
“Anytime. I'll see you soon.”
Tears begin to form in Deirdre's eyes. She feels hopeless.
*“Your eyes are my glimpse into heaven, Deir.”*
It was *his* voice.
Her eyes brighten as she looks around her empty room.
She had tricked herself.
Her tears of sadness turn into rage as she throws her phone across the room, screaming at her naiveness. She storms to her photo wall, grabbing each photo she had of him.
She wants to tear them. Burn them. Shred them. Anything to get rid of his presence.
*“I love you, Deir. I loved, love, and will continue every piece of you, Deir.”*
She felt a hand slide into her shoulder. It was *his* hand. It was *his* touch.
It was *him.*
She looks back. Nothing.
It
Will
Always
Lead
To
Nothing.
Deirdre looks at the vase with fury in her eyes. She picks up the vase. Second thoughts flood her head, but she refuses to stop. She smashes the vase on the ground before picking up the flowers. She breaks each one in half, trying to free herself from her curse.
She falls to the ground, crying. A surge of emotions race through her veins.
What more must she do to be free?

Daily 8: Break a Leg! | 550 words
Anna was a performer. She was born to a performer. Everyone knew she was a performer.
She got ready in her dress—it was the greatest dress she had owned. It was a black, velvet, elegant turtleneck dress that flowed to her knees. Her hair was neatly styled in a bun, with a sparkly, silver flower hair clip in the center of her bun. She slipped her feet into her black heels. There was nothing new in her routine, but a sense of fulfillment enchanted her as she looked in the mirror, her brown eyes twinkling with hope. She smiled at herself—it was a different kind of smile for her, a smile she had never imagined to smile in her youth.
“Break a leg, Anna,” She whispers to herself, still maintaining her gaze in the mirror.
A familiar sequence of knocks greets her in the background. It was her artistic director. She had always knocked a certain way to give distinction.
“Come in, miss!” Anna resounded as she admired her dress.
Ms. Davidson waltzed into Anna's dressing room, flashing a grin as Anna turned to her.
“Anna, you're absolutely stunning!” Ms. Davidson cooed, joining Anna by the mirror.
“Thank you, miss. Oh, I just can't wait!” Anna exclaimed, hugging Ms. Davidson.
“I know, dear, I can't wait too! Oh, don't forget to be in the hall in two!”
“Yes, miss! I'll be there.”
“Great! Break a leg, darling,” Ms. Davidson said, closing the door as she left.
The performers gathered in the hall. Chatters filled the air with excitement and anticipation for the upcoming performance.
“Alright, everyone! It is the day you have all been waiting for. Remember to have fun, be confident, and do your best!” Ms. Davidson piped, her hands moving in exaggerated motions. She gave a pat on the shoulder as each performer walked past the hallway, preparing their formation. The group moved with great synchronization, as if it were a group of marching soldiers. Anna stood in the center, her head bowed down like all the others.
Just then, they heard the screech of the auditorium speakers. A male voice was broadcasted.
“The Night House would like to proudly present… The Belladonnas!”
The crowd roared as the sound of piano keys enchanted the audience. The Belladonnas began performing, with Anna being the lead. The audience watched in awe as the graceful routine of the girls was executed, each twirl and jump in perfect harmony.
The end of the routine was about to take place. The Belladonnas gathered in a circle, leaving Anna to shine in her own moment.
The spotlight shined on her dress. The crowd's gaze focused on her.
It was time.
She leaped into the air, her pose as graceful as a swan in a peaceful lake. The moment was for her and only her—for once, she did not care about the world.
The routine ends as Anna lands in a split, her arms raised forming a circle.
Cheers erupt from the standing audience as they give a standing ovation. The girls gathered in a line in front, ready to take a bow.
Except, they heard a frightening scream.
The Belladonnas immediately turn to the back of the stage in sheer horror.
Anna was still in her split, but something was amiss.

Weekly 1: Perspectives
Part 1: Passage of Time | 320 words
swapped with @Connyraerae of Gothic: The Summonings
My Scene:
A fine summer morning marked Val's first day at her family's new American home. She stood by the front yard wearing her pink and white tank top and black denim shorts, with her hair neatly kept in a high ponytail. She was amazed by the facade of her suburban home. The walls were painted white with a black roof. They had a front porch with two rocking chairs on either side, and the porch was surrounded by shrubs. The front yard of the house was fenced off with a gray fence. It was nothing like what Val had lived in during her stay in the Philippines. She was ecstatic. She ran to open the mahogany door, revealing the living room. To the right of the door was a gray polyester couch, with a glass coffee table in front of it. Across the couch was a wall-mounted flatscreen television, and either side of the living room walls had empty picture frames.
Conny’s Continuation:
Val remembers the nostalgia all over again after staring at a picture from her phone. She quickly turned it off after the glass office door opened, it was her boss. Years and years of torment by the same person; she hoped it would someday give her a well-deserved promotion. The coffee spilled all over the office’s white couch, her boss gave a satisfied grin knowing Val would be to blame if it were not cleaned up. She sighed out of exhaustion, she’s better than this—she won’t let her boss get under her skin. Her boss quickly enters his own office space, leaving Val with the scent of freshly spilled Americano from across the room. She goes home, hoping to find linen to replace the couch covers. She opens the chipped away gray fence to her badly maintained frontyard. Passing through the rustic wooden door and family pictures in frames, she lays on her couch. “That promotion better be worth it!” She exclaimed.
Conny’s Scene:
The nuclear war held on the planet of Nyxterium wiped out half the population of Astaria’s race. Plants would wilt from the radioactive atmosphere, animals would go hiding from the outside. Astaria and her two brothers held each other tightly in fear as more bombs were detonated by the attackers above, their bunker cramped, old-fashioned, and a gust away from collapsing. She was the eldest among her siblings,—they were too young to perish—she was too young to perish.
They’ve been underground for a few weeks already, their supplies are growing scarce. Blytharos; the youngest among the siblings, was the chosen Nyxteria Warrior by his father. Astaria took him inside the bunker despite his said destiny. He was far—too young. They have no choice but to send someone back up to get supplies. Blytharos volunteered but was immediately shut down by his sister. This led Blytharos to open the bunker door in the dead of night to escape and gather supplies.
My Continuation:
A decade passed, and the bunker that held Astaria's family together was reduced to ashes. The impact of endless warfare was too much for the bunker to handle. Blytharos had now grown to be the strongest of the three, yet Astaria's protectiveness of her youngest brother grew stronger. She didn't want to lose him. However, Blytharos was a stubborn man. He was the man of the house, he thought. He believed he no longer needed his sister's care. Blytharos persevered through the war, salvaging supplies for his siblings whenever he could. Animals were now extinct, and only a tenth of Astaria's race were alive. Astaria and her siblings had to rely on artificially grown plants for their food, and thoroughly cleansed water to drink. Astaria was now the smallest among her siblings, but she was still willing to do anything for the sake of her brothers' survival, despite their disagreement.
Part 2: Dual Timelines | 660 words
Val groaned as her alarm clock went off. Warm sunlight peered through her bed sheets, signaling her to begin the day. She was too tired from her graveyard shift, yet she knew she had to make the most out of her absence from work.
Her usual routine was observed: shower, quick breakfast, skincare, a prayer, then meditation. She felt as if her world would collapse the moment she did not follow her routine.
Today, she was set on decluttering her apartment. Clothes were scattered across her floor, tissues were found in every nook and cranny, and surfaces were starting to gather dust. It had been months since Val had cleaned, and though she had been guilty of it for that duration, how could she possibly find time to clean with her demanding job?
She began sorting out her clothes - segregating the dirty from the clean, each one sorted by its kind. She placed the dirty clothes in her laundry basket and folded the clean clothes before placing them in her closet.
Once she was done sorting her wardrobe, Val moved on with sorting her storage boxes. The boxes were worn and covered in dust; they had not been touched since she moved to the apartment. She planned to replace the old boxes with new ones, making sure to label them to avoid disorganization.
She wiped off the dust of the first box with a rag and slowly removed the cover. The box contained a mix of papers and trinkets from her teenage years. A gallery of memories filled her head as she sifted through the papers, finding cards, journal entries, and letters from old friends. She had a tinge of embarrassment reading through some of them, yet she could not hide her amusement and nostalgia.
Eventually, Val came across a pink, glittery envelope that was addressed to her with cut-outs of letters in different fonts. This envelope felt familiar just like the rest, but she could not put a finger on what was inside.
She opened the flap of the envelope with a message written on it.
“For Valerie Kinaiya's eyes only! Do not open until you're 20 years old or older,” Val read, curling her lips into a smile whilst giving a chuckle. She was twenty-five, she thought, so she might as well open it.
Val unfolded the paper, revealing a letter.
She recognized the handwriting.
Dearest Val,
Hi Val! It's me, Val from 2010! I'm ten years old right now and in 5th grade! My favorite colors are pink and purple, and my favorite bands are One Direction and the Jonas Brothers. I'm writing this at 11:00 PM, even though my bed time is at 10:00 PM. I had to do boring math homework before writing this.
Anyways, we should be talking more about YOU! You're 20+ years old already! You must be living the life. I have a few questions to ask you too!
1. Are you a filmmaker?
2. Are you rich and living in New York with mom and dad?
3. Did you meet One Direction or the Jonas Brothers? Or both? (That would be even cooler!)
4. Have you worked with Anne Hathaway or Julia Roberts?
5. Do you have a boyfriend yet?
6. Do you have a golden retriever dog?
If you say yes to all five questions, I am super proud of you! If not, that's still okay, I'm still proud of you! I just hope you didn't forget our dream of becoming a famous filmmaker. Although, if you changed your mind, that's still okay too! I just hope that you're happy with mom, dad, and your boyfriend! (If you have one!)
It's so cool to meet you, future Val! Just remember to have fun and inspire people with everything you're doing, whether it's through your films, your jokes, or whatever you're up to right now!
I love you, my super cool, funny, and awesome Val!
Lots of love,
Val
Part 3: Pacing | 1,001 words
Prompt 1: Being chased by someone
My heart raced as I ran through the cracked roads under the dark skies of Manhattan, changing streets whenever I could.
“Faster, Thea,” I whispered under my short, quick breaths.
The footsteps of the tall, shadowy figure got faster and louder by the minute.
“Stop running, little girl,” The man taunts.
I continued to run, until I noticed I was no longer familiar with the area I was in.
My body started to ache.
“Come on, keep running,” I whisper once more.
But I could no longer take it.
My feet gave way. My knees crashed against the pavement.
The man slowed down.
I felt his coat brush my shoes.
“What do you want with me!” I shout.
Nobody was there.
The pupils of my eyes widened. I started hyperventilating.
The man covers my face with a cloth, and the world goes black.
Prompt 2: Trapped in a room
My eyes opened, revealing a dark room. The door was behind me, containing 3 different bolts. In the corner stood a flickering lamp, emitting bursts of yellow light. Beside it was a work bench, containing a collection of tools unfamiliar to me. I was too focused on the tools that I didn’t see what was on the yellow walls.
Rows of pictures were plastered on all four sides of the room. Each one contained my face, and each one was taken in a different location. Park, mall, grocery, arcade, school. *My house.*
I tried to leave, but I fell, bringing the chair with me. My limbs were tied to the chair. I was stuck.
As my face was inches away from touching the floor, I heard a faint sound of keys, followed by the door bolts opening.
“Tsk, naughty girl. I wouldn’t just leave you free to wander my work room, would I, darling?” The man spoke in a posh accent.
“Put my chair upright now,” I demanded.
“I’m afraid I don’t cooperate well with brats.”
Rolling my eyes, I sighed in frustration. “Put my chair upright now, *please*.”
“Good girl.”
The chair I was in was lifted and repositioned upright.
I was face-to-face with my abductor. He was tall and lean. Faint wrinkles decorated his forehead. He had black hair mixed with gray white streaks. His brown eyes matched the brown suit he was wearing. He also had aviator glasses and a gold watch.
“I don’t know who you are, and I don’t know anything about this place. Now, what do you want with me?” I asked, maintaining eye contact with him.
Instead of a response, he pulled out his phone from his pocket. He began scrolling through whatever he had on his screen.
“Hey, look, I am totally not being a brat, so it would be real nice if you’d cooperate with me right now!” I raised my voice. I wanted to wave my hands at him, but I forgot I was tied up.
Eventually, the man put his phone back into his pocket before finally looking at me.
“I’m afraid I don’t have much time now, dear, if you can’t tell by my get-up. In the meantime, I’ll leave you here to wander with your eyes, and hopefully you’d wander enough for you to fancy this humble space of mine. Farewell!” The man left as he gave me a smile.
The door was shut once again, and the bolts were put back into place.
“I think I’ve wandered with my eyes long enough, and I hope you get caught by the police in your awful get-up! Farewell!” I shouted, hoping he would hear me.
My eyes wandered through the pictures on the walls. I tried making mental notes regarding any similarities in the pictures, hoping for a clue, but nothing seemed connected. They were all just pictures.
Each minute spent in the room started to feel longer. I slowly felt like I was going insane as I began entertaining myself by singing songs and creating stories in my head. I hope the man wasn’t secretly listening, or anyone at all, for that matter.
Once again, I heard the door being opened, except it was at a faster pace. Was the man caught? Is it the police?
The doors burst open, and a young man rushed in. He began untying the ropes holding me to the chair.
“Who are you? What are you doing here?” I asked, confused. Was he an accomplice?
“I’m getting you out of here. I’ll explain later. It’s up to you whether you trust me,” He said as the ropes were undone. I looked into his eyes—his eyes were of worry and pain. His blonde hair was ruffled, as if he had been in a fight with it. His clothes were slightly worn and ragged, too.
In the spur of the moment, I followed him.
Prompt 3: Escaping
We ran up flights of stairs, slowing down when I needed to breathe. We didn’t talk along the way, for our focus was on escaping.
Soon, we reached an exit door. I tried opening it
“It’s locked,” I said.
The young man pulled out a paperclip from his pocket and slid it through the lock. He moved it around until the door clicked.
We ran outside the exit door. I followed the man as we dashed through streets in broad daylight.
“My name’s Jordan,” He said as we ran.
“Thea,” I replied, struggling to form a sentence.
In the corner of my eye, I saw a tall man running after us.
He was wearing a brown suit.
Jordan and I ran faster, even if I felt my body couldn’t physically handle it.
Breathe. Run. Breathe.
We ran down stairs heading to a subway station, making our way through the crowded space.
“Look ahead!” Jordan shouted. There was a train about to close.
As if time froze, we barely made it into the train, squeezing ourselves through.
The tall man stood at a distance from the train, his eyes staring into my soul.
Part 4: Tie It All Together | 2,251 words
inspired by the song Our Last Summer by ABBA
“Come on, dad! Tell me a bedtime story,” A bubbly, young Ivanna insists, tugging on her fluffy, cotton blanket whilst looking admiringly at Harry, her father.
“Are you gonna listen, sweetheart? You might fall asleep midway,” Harry jokingly replies, stroking Ivanna’s hair while sitting on the opposite side of her bed.
“I promise I won’t! Pretty please, dad? With a cherry on top?” Ivanna asks, her pleading eyes softening her father’s heart.
Harry smiles warmly at Ivanna, her pleading eyes reminding him of his first and only lover. He looks into the distance of the bedroom, reminiscing his youthful days. He looks back at Ivanna.
“Why don’t I tell you the story of the summer I met your mother?” Harry asks.
Ivanna’s face lights up, her eyes widening with excitement.
“Yes please!” She says with a grin, focusing her attention on Harry.
Harry returns his gaze to the opposite side of the bedroom, recollecting his fond memories.
“Well then, let’s start from the beginning.”
It was a warm summer night in Paris. Gentle airs blanketed the atmosphere as Harry strolled along the iconic Champs-Élysées. The trees rustled as vehicles passed by the Arc de Triomphe. The majestic view of the arc put Harry in a trance-like state as he slowly walked towards it, unknowingly bumping into another person.
“Oh dear, my sincerest apologies-” Harry was caught off-guard as he looked at the person. Her wavy, blonde hair fell to her chest, complimenting her deep brown eyes. She wore a white floral maxi dress accompanied by beige-colored heeled sandals. She was near Harry’s height, and they both shared light skin. Her features captivated Harry, as if he were greeted by a deity.
“Cat got your tongue, did it?” The amused woman replied.
Harry blinked, regaining his senses. “I suppose so,” He replied with a chuckle.
“The name’s Corinne,” She said, extending her hand.
“I’m Harry.”
The two shook hands, exchanging smiles. The soft, smooth touch of Corinne’s hand comforted an enthralled Harry in the foreign environment.*
“Would you like to stroll along the Élysées with me? Of course, if it’s not much trouble with you,” Harry asked, eager to know more about his new friend.*
“It would be a pleasure, Harry.”
The two continued walking along the avenue, stopping by different cafes to get drinks. They soon made it to the Arc de Triomphe, where they stood gazing at the stars. It had been a quiet stroll, Harry figured.
“So, what fancies your interest, Corinne?”
“Not much, though I do enjoy some politics and philosophy myself if you’re into that kind of shebang.”
“I indeed am into that kind of shebang.” Harry wasn’t too knowledgeable in either subject, but he was interested in whatever Corinne was interested in. He quietly listened with an intent expression as she talked about French politics and various philosophical topics, nodding and reacting when it was appropriate.
“What about you, Harry? You haven’t said much in the time I was talking,” Corinne asked with a curious expression.
Harry opened his mouth to reply, but closed it again out of doubt. He looked at his surroundings, hoping to gather ideas, but he was still left clueless.
”I’m sorry, Corinne, but to be honest, I lack knowledge in both of your fields of interest. It was a * move for me to lie to you, although I did eagerly listen to your political and philosophical discussions. I couldn’t say much about French politics either since I’m not even French. I can always try learning more about politics and philosophy myself so I’m able to talk with you about those matters better. Again, I’m terribly sorry,” Harry confessed, looking at the ground with a disappointed look in his face. He didn’t look at Corinne, waiting for her to leave or to insult him.
Instead, he felt a pat on the shoulder.
“Harry, I can easily tell when someone is absolutely clueless as to what I’m talking about. I just didn’t admit it to see if you’d tell the truth. Don’t worry, you’re fine,” Corinne affirmed, giving Harry a reassuring smile. Harry looked back to Corinne, nodding in gratitude.
“What happened after that, dad?” Ivanna asks, her eyes sleepy yet full of eagerness.
“I walked her home, and she asked me a question before leaving,” Harry answered.
“What question?”
There were hardly any people left in the street. It was past midnight. Harry and Corinne stood by the doorstep of Corinne’s house, exchanging contact numbers and saying their goodbyes.
“Can you choose to love someone?”
Harry was perplexed by the question, much more why Corinne had asked it.
“I don’t think I can answer that directly, Corinne,” Harry answered, shrugging.
"You don’t have to. It’s a philosophical question. Take time to ponder it,” Corinne responded.
“I will then. Goodnight, Corinne. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Goodnight, Harry.”
As Harry was about to cross the street, he heard Corinne’s call in the distance.
“I had fun today, Harry. Thank you.”
“Likewise, Corinne. Thank you.”
Harry returned to his hotel that night, his heart full and his spirits lifted.
“How long did you stay in France?”
”Initially, I was to stay for only two weeks, but I had my stay extended to a month.”
“Was it because of mom?”
“Because of her,” Harry echoed, a wistful expression across his face.
The weeks passed by as Harry and Corinne explored Paris.
“Today was a blast, wasn’t it?” Corinne asked, laughing as they went home from their stroll along the Seine, both of them soaking wet from the unexpected rain. Their hands intertwined as they strolled, cautious of the slippery sidewalks. Corinne began to fall for Harry’s charm and honesty, while Harry has fallen in deep enough for Corinne’s knowledge and humor.
“I could not agree more, especially the part where a certain someone burned their tongue on a freshly baked croissant,” Harry teased, adding to the laughter.
“Hey! I was hungry. It took you long enough to get ready for breakfast at the restaurant,” Corinne teased back.
They walked to Harry’s hotel room, for it was nearer than Corinne’s house. They spent the afternoon there as they waited for the rain to settle down, listening to music and sipping on hot chocolate.
“I have an idea for tomorrow’s activity,” Harry announced, walking out of the bathroom, changed in a fresh pair of clothes.
“What is it?” Corinne asked, getting up from the couch. She was wearing Harry’s spare shirt and shorts, for they had both taken showers to cleanse themselves of the rainwater.
“Tomorrow morning, we have a picnic by the Eiffel tower. You’ll bring the blanket, and I’ll bring the food. We’ll also take pictures and talk about anything under the sun. How does that sound?”
Corinne jumps from the couch and gives Harry a warm hug. “It’s perfect, Harry.”
Harry is flustered from the hug, but hugs Corinne back. It was an impromptu yet intimate moment for the both of them. They both loved each other, and they were both aware of that.
Hours after, the rain stopped. Harry walked Corinne back to her house. Once again, they bid farewell, hugging each other dearly.
“Dad, why are you crying?” Ivanna asked, worried about her father’s expression. She sits upright to hug Harry.
“Oh, it’s nothing darling,” Harry responds, hugging her back. “I just feel quite nostalgic. And I’m not crying, I’m just tearing up. Don’t worry about me, sweetheart. Would you still like to continue the story?”
“Of course, dad! I wanna hear the whole thing.”
The sun rose as Harry got ready for his picnic date with Corinne. He buttons down his white top to match his khaki shorts and sandals, and neatly styles his hair after. He packs a basket with fruit and sandwiches, along with his favorite pair of sunglasses. A while later, he grabs his wallet and keys before setting off.
“Right on time, I see,” Corinne said as she opened the door, giving Harry a hug.
“Specially for you,” Harry replied, pulling out a bouquet of dahlias, dandelions, orchids, and roses. He picked this up at a flower shop near Corinne’s house as a surprise.
Corinne cups her hands over her mouth, shocked and warmed by the surprise. She slowly takes the bouquet from Harry’s hands, admiring each flower’s unique beauty.
“I love it, Harry,” She whispers with a grin, looking fondly at Harry.
“And I love you, Corinne,” Harry whispers back.
Corinne kisses Harry softly on the cheek before grabbing his hand and running.
“Come on, let’s go have our picnic date!” She exclaims, looking back at Harry as they joyfully ran to the Eiffel tower.
The morning was a perfect dream come true for the starstruck young love birds. They conversed over a multitude of topics under the summer sun and gentle breeze, enjoying the beauty of Paris. The setting was simple, but what mattered to them was each other’s company.
“Do you remember when you asked me, ‘can you choose to love someone?’” Harry asked, looking into the distance. The conversation quieted down as they began to enjoy the scenery and the food.
“Yeah, that was the day we met. Why?” Corinne replied, observing Harry’s wandering gaze.
“Well, I think I have an answer to that now.”
“And?”
*Harry turns to Corinne, immersing himself in her eager eyes.
“I came here to Paris on a vacation alone before formally inheriting my father’s business in England. That night, I was simply enjoying myself and seeing what scenery Paris had to offer when I unexpectedly bumped into you. I was enchanted by the Arc de Triomphe at that moment, but I was enthralled by your beauty. I could’ve just apologized and moved on with my life, but I chose to befriend you and know you better. With that being said, my answer is yes, you can choose to love someone. To love someone is a choice, and I chose to love you, Corinne. I choose you.”
Harry gets down on his knees with his arms open, inviting Corinne for a hug.
“From then until now and the future to come, I choose you, Corinne. I will always choose you. Only you.”
Time stops for the moment. The two hearts beat passionately in unison.
Corinne rushes into Harry’s arms. Their lips touch.
“I choose you too, Harry."
More tears flow from Harry’s nostalgic eyes. He is embraced tightly by Ivanna, who has her head leaned against Harry’s hip. Harry wraps an arm around her, the other wiping his tears.
“It was a trial for us both when I returned to England,” Harry continued to narrate. “We would send each other letters every week or two, and I’d come back to France every month. I proposed to her with an engagement ring in front of Notre Dame cathedral, and we had an intimate wedding in a small church in her neighborhood. Soon after, she migrated to England to live with me, and then we were pregnant with you. It was an exciting journey for us both. There were challenges that came along with it, but we were both ready to take on the next chapter.”
Harry paused for a while, taking deep breaths as he shifted his glance from Ivanna to the bedroom wall.
“She… she had complications during the pregnancy. The doctors advised her to abort you, but she refused. She loved you, Ivanna. She gave you her life because she chose you. She chose to love you, and you should always remember that.”
Harry and Ivanna exchanged tearful smiles, hugging each other as comfort.
“Ah, darling, could you please excuse me for a bit? I’ll just get something,” Harry said as he left the room. He came back shortly with a piece of paper in his hand. He sat on the bed again, handing the paper to Ivanna.
“Before she left, your mother wrote this and asked me to give it to you when you’re old enough to understand. You can read it whenever you’re ready to.”
Ivanna examined the paper. It was yellowish due to exposure to the elements, and it had Ivanna’s name written on it. She carefully unfolded the paper, revealing a letter.
August 10, 2000
Dearest Ivanna,
You are reading this because you’re old enough to understand where I am, and also because your father has already told you the story of how we met.
I named you Ivanna, meaning “God is gracious.” Indeed, God has been gracious, for He blessed me with a partner who was willing to choose me each day, and a baby girl who your father and I both choose to love eternally. The way your father and I met might seem like something straight out of a novel or a movie, but I see it as God’s blessing.
Whenever you feel down, always remember that there is at least one person out there who chooses you. When you get a partner, make sure that he doesn’t just love you—make sure he chooses to love you. Even in your darkest moments, make sure that person still chooses you.
Please be kind and understanding of your father. He may seem strong, but I know he is hurting in my absence.
See every moment in your life as a blessing and opportunity. Ask God to guide you, and always take on challenges with a growth mindset.
Respect everyone you meet in life. You never know how you would grow from your relationships.
Take care always, my chosen one.
Forever yours,
Mom

Topic: Write a story incorporating the meanings of flowers
I was only thirteen when she found her first love. It was a little too early to crush on him like a teenager, but a little too late to crush on him like a kid. So I sat quietly in the corner of class, staring at him longingly. I hated the way a Vetch was taking up my heart.
I had one friend- Laatia. She was the only one who would hear out my rambles about how he made me feel like she was about to burst. She was the only one who would listen to me in general- I was viewed as an outcast. I went to an old-fashioned city because it was all my parents could afford, and my dark skin was frowned upon and was treated like a curse. Laatia was the only one who found a friend in me.
But like all things, our friendship came to an end. Laatia moved away and promised to stay in touch with letters. The first few months, my drawers were full of crinkly paper envelopes, but they soon faded away. Now fourteen, I was seated next to the window alone, staring at Lance day in and day out.
Lance was like an Elder Blossom. Anything and everything he did was kind and compassionate- which was the thing that made me so attracted to him. He was even kind to me- though he would not speak to me for more than two minutes, he smiled when our eyes locked and was the only one who volunteered to be my partner in group projects. Slowly, I grew more and more attached to him. It was a sinking feeling in my chest- addictive yet painful.
Slowly but surely, I had started to do all sorts of things to make sure that he smiled at me. I found his favorite spot and ‘coincidentally’ bumped into him. After more and more tries, we had managed to have a proper conversation. I grew to become an Indian Pink- anytime I was not with Lance, I felt a bitter feeling in my chest as if I would die.
So, sixteen year old, foolish Ximena walked up to Lance at the parting of the grade. This would be the last time I would ever meet him because he was moving away- so I had to tell him her feelings now. I tapped him on the shoulder and when he turned, I quickly confessed to him. He stood in shock for a while before letting out a smile. It was not the usual kind ones he gave me, but had a jeering edge to it before he turned and walked away. I stood there for longer than she could remember. The last one to leave the class, I never saw him again.
No matter how hard I tried, she couldn't forget the faces of him and everyone around him. As if asking, “I was kind to you, and you think I like you? I was kind to you out of pity.” I stared in the mirror for hours, wishing I wasn't dark-skinned, wishing I wasn't hated, wishing I wasn't the outcast.
Things led to another and soon I became a thief. The adrenaline in stealing something and someone chasing me was too good to let go. World-wide famous, green eyed thief, Ximena Rodrigeuz! People knew me- people loved me, in a way. And I couldn't stop until I got caught.
Was the high worth the pain? Because at the end, I'm stuck in a place where eyes stare at me as if I am a filthy rat, again. The feeling pains me in my chest, and sometimes I wish I could have died like my twin brother. It should have been me.
I should have never been born.
As I flipped through Ximena's diary, an unbeknownst tear slipped from my eye onto the old paper. I'd never quite seen the hardships she had gone through. Thieves are not born- they are made.
“MYA,” Ximena's voice resounded through the hallway and I quickly shut the book back in the drawer. “WE HAVE TO GO.”
“Coming, Ximena,” I said before glancing at the drawer again and sprinting up to her, pulling up my gloves.

Vetch- shyness
Elder blossom- compassion
Indian Pink- I die if neglected

(The following instructions have a slight spoiler for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone.)
Welcome, Wonderful SWCers! I'm Ava and today I will give you instructions on- how to put down a book.
This is, yes, a horrible disease people have come across. For years and millennia, there was a group of individuals who could simply not put down a book. I'll let you in on a Jurrasic secret- even the mighty Pharoah could not put down his manuscript! How do I know this? I did not put down a book.
Putting down a book itis is a painful virus, so let's list some easy facts to help you cope with the pain-
1. Putting a book down itis is permanent, so you're going to have to deal with it. Sorry.
2. BUT to a few special individuals, as they grow up, putting a book down itis disease can disappear! Now, you can choose whether this is an awesome change or a terrible cure.
3. You can always fight putting a book down itis, but putting a book down itis will always come back to you. It's like a nasty curse.
Now that you know these three fundamental points, it doesn't excuse the fact that you CAN have a temporary cure for putting a book down itis! Remember that every disease has a remedy, even if it's only for five minutes.
First, we have to prep, of course! To put a book down, we must first do the following steps-
1. Read another chapter. This motivates you to put it down. Keep saying, “Just one more page”. Eventually, you will be ready to put it down, or you will have finished the book at around three in the morning, and you will HAVE to put it down anyway! (Results are not counted if you have another book next to you ready to be picked up)
2. After reaching the end of the chapter, read just one line of the next chapter. If it's interesting enough, (Example- It was Quirrel.) Then we give you full right to continue reading. Fighting at this stage may pain your brain cells and glue your fingers to the book, so let them relax onto the paper before any sudden moves.
3. If the next sentence is NOT as interesting (Example- Harry woke early the next morning.) then repeat to yourself: “It is boring. It is not worth it.” We all know these words are genuinely wrong but we can do nothing but hope that we believe they are true.
Next comes the hard part. The fact that you are still reading this means you have severe symptoms of putting down a book itis.
1. Put down your bookmark. This is the most important part. Or, if you're a fancy smahnshy pants, memorize the page number. Whatever suits you.
2. Remove your left hand from the book. Look at the fingers of your hand, and gently ungrasp them from the paper. Let them leave the paper and watch as it falls onto your right hand, enclosing the book around your right fingers.
3. This isn't even the hardest part- remove your right hand from the middle of the book. It hurts. It burns. You want to cry. You want to scream. Trust me, I've been there. Your pain is not unheard and it is totally valid- but you're going to have to bear it for now. please trust me. I believe you are strong.
4. This is the hardest part, so i will divide it into sub-sections for you-
a. Hold the book with two hands firmly.
b. Pick it up to your chest level.
c. Turn to your bookshelf, desk, or bed side table.
d. Take a deep breath
e. Take another deep breath
f. Put the book down on your bookshelf, desk, or bed side table.
g. Remove your hands carefully.
h. Look at your hands.
i. Feel your immense power.
5. Hug yourself. You put the book down. You beat putting the book down itis. Whether the result lasts for a day, a week, a month, a year (my Kindle never saw the light of day again), or perhaps five minutes, you beat this disease, and I am proud of you. The community is proud of you.
Now that you have read this, use the following instructions to put it down. I trust in you. You are awesome.

It had been a very long day at school. Not only was Penny tired but she was also furious at the fact that the class had gotten homework on a FRIDAY. Can you believe it? Who wants to do homework on a Friday? All she wanted to do was hit the hay. She closed her eyes, imagining the puffy square of straw under her bed. Beating it always relaxed her so much. She glanced at her best friend who seemed to be blissfully thinking about the same thing. Everybody in the class had their special hay under their bed, ready to be hit once they reached home.
“Nour,” Penny whispered to her glassy-eyed best friend, waking her from her fantasies. “Can you come over to my place so I can copy your homework?”
“Can I bring my hay along?” Nour asked.
“I'm not sure if my mom will say yes because last time you did it, you woke up on the floor, and your hay was almost crushed,” Penny said. “But we can have a sleepover at yours if you want, as long as I can bring *my* hay.”
Nour shrugged in response. She didn't really care whose house they went to, as long as they could have a sleepover.
After leaving school, Penny eagerly walked back to her house, opening the door without knocking and running straight up to her bedroom before pulling out the wonderful barrel of hay from below her bed.
It was golden and it gleamed, almost screaming, *Please hit me, Penny* (that got a little bit uncomfortable over there ?) But Penny resisted, pulling it into her arms and into her hay bag.
“MOM, I'M GOING OVER TO NOUR'S!” Penny called out to her mother, who was downstairs in the kitchen. “WE'RE DOING HOMEWORK TOGETHER, OK?”
Her mom called out a “yes,” and Penny rushed over to her friend's house, her school bag on her back with her books while she heaved the hay bag along. They didn't quite tell their mothers they were going to have a sleepover- they were just going to make them say yes when it was too late to say no.
It took longer than expected to finish all their homework together. By the time they were done, Nour and Penny were exhausted. They lay flat on Nour's bed, gazing up at the ceiling.
“I think we can hit the hay now,” Nour said, lazily getting off her bed. Penny agreed and got up herself, going towards her hay bag and unzipping it. Together, they picked up a hand and hit their golden straw. Almost immediately they became drowsy, but in a good way. Barely managing to get onto her bed, Penny and Nour fell asleep before her mother could come up and ask Penny to go home before it was nine o'clock. Oh, how good it felt to hit the hay after a long day of math equations, passive and active voice, and ant diagrams! Penny wouldn't give up her hay for the world.

Nako did not expect to be woken up so early. She hated the fact that Miyeol disturbed her sleep every time she had a good sleep- all she had wanted to do was wake up at ten in the morning for once. Was it that hard to wish to sleep in?
Groaning after cutting the phone call with her friend, she tried to put the pillow over her rest to get some more rest. However, it just resulted in a bad hair day and an even worse mood. After trying for half an hour just to get a single wink of sleep, Nako resigned and sat up in her bed, stretching her hands out grumpily.
She was expecting her brother to come visit her today. She barely saw Riki anymore, so it would be a treat to see him again. Though he was her step-brother, Nako valued him like he was her real family. Who said he wasn't? Family is not based on the biological people but instead based on the people themselves.
Getting off her bed, she opened her curtains and let the bright sunshine in. Though it hurt her eyes, she knew it would be better for her in the day to see actual light which was not from her dingy lightbulb. Truth was, Nako was not rich- it took half her life savings to buy this apartment so she didn't have to pay rent for it, but she barely had any left to buy more things for her house. Miyeol, her friend, had been well off

I do not know what I expected from Ximena. A former prisoner who was released for this case was NOT an appropriate decision taken by the commander in my opinion, but what could I say? My writing-
(160/150)
The bakery across the street was a town favorite- it had loads of customers every day and the couple working in it barely got a break. Their cheap prices attracted kids and the smells wafting from the windows attracted nostalgic adults. Safe to say the couple was a very happy family, with their two-year-old toddler sitting on the counter with them. Inside the glass display was a variety of different baked treats and goods- there was hardly anybody who could resist buying a thing or two. In fact, most of the time the shop was sold out by noon, and then had to be closed for another three hours so it could restock. Their cute little dining tables were perfect for couples on their first date, or perfect for a group of friends just having a casual hangout. It was safe to say that the bakery was a preferred spot for most of the citizens to have a relaxing time.
My writing for the other scene
(158/150)
Avery watched the world burn around them, still too shocked to do move any limb. Their hand was unresponsive, frozen against the glass window of the safe chamber- their fingers felt like they were glued onto the surface. They were the only ones there- nobody else had made it back and they were left alone. What was the point of a safe chamber If you were the only one safe?
They slowly sat down on a cushion on the floor, their mind flashing with memories of everything they'd gone through to get their dream job- so much hard work, leaving everything they loved behind. Their water dragons- their family, their sister, their friends. All of them were burning right now while they sat in the safe chamber. They had promised Delphin they'd see it again- they'd promised their mom they'd fix her that sweater she had loved so much that they had torn.
She'd never see them again.
First timeline-
Words- 232/200
Rojonas and Azulnatto despised each other from every part of their heart. Rojonas showed it in a more violent way- sending threat letters and killing off their civilians quietly, while Azulnatto showed it in a more sly way- setting up magical barriers, creating spells and potions, and, of course, spreading stories around their children to never trust a fire nation member. Soon enough the two closest nations quickly became the furthest apart- any sort of lovers, friends, or towns had been ripped apart and forced to live differently. Cultures or foods that were similar to each other were thrown away and anything that reminded them of the strong bond they used to have was burned- items or memories.
Rojonas had no god. The divine figure had died during the war and his body had been dragged back by the miserable and horrified god of Azulnatto, whose tears seemed endless. She blamed herself for his death and would not tell anyone what had exactly happened in the battle. Rojonas, taken up by anger and fury, had declared a breaking of peace, assuming that she had killed him with her bare hands. Too tired to reply, fight or even defend herself, Azulnatto locked herself in the heavens. She looked over her nation but she was never seen again- which only fueled the fire to Rojonas's assumption that she had killed their beloved god herself.
Second Timeline-
Words- 376/200
Yin and Yang were often looked upon as symbols of life. Symbols of eternity. Symbols of Equality.
Azulnatto and Rojonas were Yin and Yang. The fierce team, fire, and water. The perfect allies, the perfect warriors on the battlefield.
But that all changed.
“Rojonas I'm sorry,” Tears streamed down the blood streaked face of a woman. In her arms lay a person barely able to open their mouth to reply.
“It's not your fault, Azu,” Rojonas choked out as blood leaked more from his chest. Being the idiot he was he had taken out the arrow which had pierced him- making the wound worse.
“If I hadn't been so distracted by Karthika you could've been ok,” droplets and droplets fell onto the boy's shirt as Azulnatto wept. “Stupid war, stupid Lunova, stupid-”
“Azulnatto, I want you to listen to me very carefully.” Rojonas croaked out, cutting her off. “Go back to my clan and tell them their founder is dead.”
“ARE YOU STUPID?” the girl screeched. The war raged in behind the stone wall which securely hid the grieving woman.
“Tell them it wasn't your fault,” Rojonas started to close his eyes. “It's not your fault. We went into war knowing consequences, and we hold responsibility for our own actions.”
“But I'm not ready for you to go yet,” Azulnatto sobbed. “Remember you said you'd be there for my wedding? And you'd be there to spoil my kids? And you'd be there calling me stupid when I was old too? You have so many things-” Her eyes widened as his closed, and she started to panic.
“Hey, don't close your eyes,” she lightly slapped his face. “Don't you dare-”
“You were the most valued friend I ever had,” Rojonas smiled weakly. “Win this war for me, and don't blame yourself for any of this.”
“What do you mean ”were?“ I still AM your most valued friend because you're NOT going to die, you idiot,” she said. Azulnatto soon realized he had not replied for over twenty seconds, and a fresh line of tears started flowing down her face.
“Wake up,” she murmured, shaking his body, unable to process the fact that her best friend had passed away in her arms. And it was all her fault.

Drowing, Sinking
All I could think of was the way my lungs constricted as if water was trying to get through them. My legs were stuck to the floor like I was sinking in quicksand, and nothing I did could help me lift them to move away from the horrendous situation. Each second I stood in the spot I felt more and more suffocated. Everywhere around me, the air was pressing against my body like it was trying to crush me like a soda can.
Bullying, Hatred
Along with my breathless attempt to try and move my legs were the jeering faces of everyone around me. I knew this wasn't a good idea- I should have stayed homeschooled. I should have stayed at home either way. It wasn't different in my first school either. How was it my fault that there was something wrong with me? I didn't ask to be born this way. I tried really hard to at least act normal, but nothing I did gained me friends. Why did it matter how I looked? Why couldn't they just focus on how I behaved instead of focusing on the one thing I didn't want them to look at? I spent hours and hours trying to cover it up. Hours and hours trying to find the perfect thing that would make me seem like a normal human being.
Overbearing emotions
My father was so upset when he got a call from the office about the things I went through in school. He was mad at me for not telling him, but how could I? He was a single father with four children, working every spare hour in the day to put food on our table. Any more emotions and he would have crumbled on the spot. So how could I, his oldest child put that much more stress on my poor father? Ever since my mother had died, overbearing emotions had settled over my family. There was no way I would burden it more with a small thing like bullying. So I waited quietly before the faces dispersed, bored at the fact that I was just standing there and doing nothing when in reality I was still drowning. Drowning in fear and anger, but most importantly in sadness.

Nako was only nine when her parents got divorced. Too smart for her age, she had learned all too quickly what it felt like to choose sides. Her heart wrenched to be away from her father, but her mother took her with her, afraid that her father might destroy Nako's life like he destroyed her mothers.
She might have been smart enough to know enough about decision-making, but she still wasn't smart enough to know the drunkard her father was. So instead of having some sort of relief, all she felt was bitterness towards her mother for breaking their wonderful family apart.
As her mother moved to an entirely different country, Nako found herself resenting her even more. She wasn't allowed to call her dad, and she wasn't allowed to even speak his name. Many nights were spent with her crying into her pillow until one day her mother had saved up enough money to send her to school.
There she met Miyeol. Like a bright, clumsy sunbeam in the middle of dark clouds. She couldn't help but laugh when she laughed, and cry when she cried. Nako was Miyeol's calm energy, and Miyeol was Nako's reminder to look at the bright side.
Soon enough, her mother had remarried. Nako was twelve, and she was more mature. Too mature for her age, but that's how it was when she lived alone for so long. Her new dad was nice- it wasn't the same as before, but she could tell he was trying hard not to make her feel uncomfortable. It wasn't working, but the thought counted.
Before their marriage, her parents had introduced her to her new sibling- he was two years younger than her, and they both looked very different. Nako's dark black hair was the only thing that made them look slightly related. From any other point of view, however, Nako and her brother looked completely different.
Nako had vibrant green eyes, and her brother had deep, muddy brown. Nako was somewhat pale while her brother was tanned. They talked differently, they behaved differently, and they did not like each other. At least, at first.
Nako resented her step-brother more than she resented her mom. He was always trying to approach her and make friends when she wanted to stay alone. Looking back on that, Nako regretted almost every action she had done to push him away, until one day something changed. She didn't know what and she didn't know why, but she saw her brother in a different light. Watching him walk alone to school, even though he was on the same path as her, she re-thought: “Why do I hate him so much?”
Nako realized that it wasn't her hate for the boy in the way, but her hate for change. It was only when she was 15 had she realized that she did not hate her mother or her new family, but she hated the thought of forgetting her father, and she would just have to accept it. Hard as it was, it was the only way Nako could ever become a better person.
So, though not that day, Nako made an effort to communicate with her brother. It was hard at first since she was used to shooing him away. After a month or two, they had become inseparable- Miyeol was her reminder to stay happy, and her brother was her reminder to just stay. Whether happy or sad, her brother had somehow taught her that you have to move on in life. It doesn't matter whether you wanted to or not- the world would not stop.
Seven years later…
Nako did not expect to be woken up so early. She hated the fact that Miyeol disturbed her sleep every time she had a good dream- all she had wanted to do was wake up at ten in the morning for once.
Miyeol, her friend, had been well off since the beginning and felt guilty every time she worked with her and she knew it. Miyeol didn't ask for her mother to buy her the apartment but she did anyway. A secret Nako knew was that Miyeol had secretly been saving up to buy the apartment herself- that's why she had so much excess money.
Nonetheless, Nako loved Miyeol like she was her own sister. Getting ready to scream at her for disturbing her sleep, she had to remind herself that Miyeol was the whole reason she was waking up on that day.

Topic- Connect story prompts together.
Prompts- Drowning, Sinking // Bullying, Hatred // Overbearing emotions

There was a city, blanketed in snow and ice. If you were to look at it above, it would appear to be nothing more than a white sheet. When viewed from the side, it would likely resemble a holiday trinket, a snow globe, perhaps.
Somewhere in the middle of that city, walking the streets, was a boy of about fifteen. He had his hands shoved in his pockets, shoulders hunched against the wind. The streets were empty say for him. It seemed he was the only one fool enough to go out in this unprecedented weather. But then, he was the only one who knew the truth about it, wasn’t he?
The situation was so ironic, he laughed bitterly to himself, his breath coming out in a visible puff. Of course he was the only one who knew the truth about the weather.
After all, he was the one who caused it.
The Nograzar Kingdom is thriving, each citizen is pleased with the king and queen’s leadership, the animals are growing healthily, and each day of trade ends friendly and efficiently. Moss and vines are slowly creeping up the large brick walls of the castle, but nobody minds. The greens aren’t doing any harm, and it gives the entirety of the kingdom a more inviting and homey feel. Horses’ hooves click against the cobblestone paths, and the small stones wear down with each passing day. The meadows and fields are filled with stunning arrays of wildflowers, each one different from the next, but somehow come together to create a gorgeous display. Each little shop has its own fun gadgets, and whether for entertainment or important use, each shop is successful. The Nograzar Kingdom was thriving once, but time takes its toll on even the most beautiful of places. It was crazy, really, what sort of change a different ruler can make. It has been ten years since the kingdom had truly flourished, back before the then-prince had taken over the throne upon his parents disappearance. In the years since, the people have grown uneasy, unsure of their new king’s leadership. And with good reason. He’d poured a countless amount of gold into throwing lavish parties, letting the rest of the kingdom wither as a result. The markets are quiet, with few people having the money to purchase much of anything. Many owners have been forced to close up shop, and the buildings stood isolated and boarded up. It seemed another family left every day. Even the wildflowers in the meadows have begun to wilt. The people of Nograzar have lost hope for the kingdom, and everything inside it is falling to ruin.

“I’m not worthless,” Logan Miles says. He’d meant it to sound strong, hard to argue with, but instead he just sounded defeated. “If you’d give me a chance, I could make you proud.”
His father, Octavian, laughs humorously. “You? Make me proud? Boy, you’re nothing but a useless halfling.”
“I’m your son.”
“You’re hardly a son of mine. You take far too much after your manipulative disgrace of a mother.”
“Don’t talk about my mother like that!” This time Logan manages to raise his voice, angry.
“I’ll talk about her however I please. What does it matter? She’s not here anyway.”
“Don’t.”
“Well then, don’t tell me what to do.” Octavian lowers his voice. Logan can’t help but think this sounds more menacing than yelling, and almost wishes to return to having a shouting match.
“Stay in your place,” his father continues. “You are incredibly lucky that I’m willing to raise you, and you will show the rest of us the respect we deserve, least I change my mind. Is that understood?”
“…Yes, Father.”
Sylvia von Rosa sat waiting on the terrace, wondering how long her dear Octavian would leave her waiting. The early night air was not unpleasant, but her long sleeved maroon gown wasn’t made of the coolest material, either.
Finally, he walked out. He was wearing a crisp suit, and his black hair was slicked back. That wasn’t unusual for him, but he was carrying a rose and seemed ever so slightly, uncharacteristically nervous. It was endearing.
“Hello, darling,” Sylvia greeted him, accepting the rose.
“Sylvia, my love,” Octavian began. “Forgive me for rushing into this the moment I arrive, but I fear if I don’t ask you now I will never work up the nerve again. As you know, I am about the inherit my family’s manor, and as I step into this new role I would like nothing more than to have you by my side. Sylvia von Rosa, love of my life, will you make me an incredibly lucky man and do me the honor of becoming my bride?”
She gasped, covering her mouth with her hand. Tears in her eyes, all she could do was nod, holding out a hand, upon which he slipped a ring.
She was overjoyed, truly. But a small voice in her head couldn’t help pointing out he didn’t know her secret.
Logan Miles is huddled up in an alleyway, shivering. He didn’t think it through when he decided to run away this close to winter. But he couldn’t stay at Miles Manor anymore, couldn’t stay with a family that would never accept him because of what he is. He’s only twelve years old, he doesn’t deserve any of this. But he’s not going to cry. He’d made up his mind about that along time ago. Logan doesn’t cry, he doesn’t show emotion. He doesn’t give anyone anything to use against him.
Holding his knees to his chest, he looks up and murmurs the same thing he’s been wishing since Sylvia left this world nine years ago.
“I wish you were here, Mother.”
He’s all alone in the alleyway. But in truth, he always has been.
“Darling, I have to tell you something,” Sylvia, now Miles, said.
“Of course, dear, you can tell me anything,” Octavian said.
She gave him a pained smile. “I can’t, I truly can’t. But our child will be born soon, and I will not force them to grow up without knowing the truth. Without knowing what they are. It wouldn’t be fair. I’ve already been selfish enough, I won’t allow myself to continue to be so wrapped up in my own wants that I neglect what’s right for my own child.”
“What are you saying?”
“Do not tell me you can’t figure it out. The fact that I never go out in sunlight, or even step foot near an open window? The sharpness of my teeth? I know you’ve noticed my odd habits, you just haven’t wanted to acknowledge them.”
He took a step back. “No.. no. It can’t be. I’ve been married to you for almost a year! You can’t be serious!”
“Octavian, love.. I’m a vampire.”
Logan looks around at his friends, feeling a sudden rush of contentment. What a nice word that was, friends. The chances of him ever fully admitting it were slim, but they truly meant the world to him. He’d been longing his whole life for a family that loved him, spent nearly a century alone. But now, here they were. He is finally realizing that he might just have a family like that after all.
One of them says something and Logan can’t help but laugh despite himself. He’s feeling something he hasn’t felt in a long time.
Logan Miles is happy.
Somewhere out there, beyond this world, Sylvia von Rosa Miles was watching. She was watching her baby boy grow up, watching helplessly as he went through trial after trial, watching him suffer all alone. But now, for the first time in a very long time, she was watching him smile. He was surrounded by friends —no, more than that. This was a small family he had found for himself. Unexpectedly, he threw his head back, letting out a seldom heard laugh.
Somewhere out there, beyond this world, Sylvia smiled, finally finding peace. All was well.

The night air was quiet. Almost ghostly quiet. It was eerie, in a way, despite how long he’d been up here. Such a long long time… it wasn’t even night, he supposed, no more was the view beyond his window air. But no matter how long he was up here, away from home, he couldn’t help but think in earthly terms. You can fling the boy in a rocket off of earth, he supposed, but you can’t fling the earth out of the boy. Or something like that.
It was all pretty routine, really. It was getting rather dull. If he was honest with himself, he almost wished something would go wrong. Nothing disastrous, just something that would provide a little excitement.
Maybe he should have ignored his mom when she pushed him towards becoming an astronaut and done skydiving instead.
A blip on the radar interrupting his thoughts and he lit up. Maybe something interesting was going to happen after all.
…maybe something too interesting.
Outside, uncomfortably close to his own ship, was an entire fleet of spaceships. Or maybe it was a squadron? He’d never payed much attention to the terms. He hit the button to turn on his radio, ready to ask the ships what they wanted, then suddenly, ruining the calm he’d grown so accustomed to, the opposing ships let lose fire, neon lasers blazing towards them.
Zing. Boom. The haul is hit. Zing. The wing this time. Zing-
Alarm lights flash red as the accompanying sirens ring out, practically deafening him.
“Shoot shoot shoot- no. No way. Absolutely not.” He states at the control screen, refusing to believe what he was seeing. They were losing altitude, and rapidly. And the asteroid was directly below them..
“Mayday, mayday, Mission Control,” he repeats frantically, punching buttons, desperate to get some form of response from the gosh darn forsaken hunk of junk.“We’re going down. We’re going down.”
Faster.
Faster. Colors whirling. Speeding out of control.
“Mayday, mayday.”
The asteroid is coming up fast. The ship is heating up.
“Mission control, please respond. I repeat, please-“
There’s a loud wail, and for a moment, everything is a blindly white. It last an unbelievably long second and then… everything goes black.
Part four
I used dual timelines and well as showing the passage of time.
Word Count: 523
Somewhere, along the Florida coast, there is a town. It’s full of small, colorful shops and houses, and small oaks trees line the sidewalks. No matter where you are, you can smell the salty air and you can almost always hear the ocean. It’s a peaceful place. And somewhere in that town, in a sandbox playground, a friendship is about to be formed.
There’s a small girl sitting in a sandbox. She’s alone, but she seems content. She wears a blue tank top and white shorts, accompanied by a variety of glittery dress up jewelry. She has sparkling blue eyes and blonde hair that falls down her back. Connie, is her name.
“Hi! Can I play with you?” Another young girl asks. She’s wearing a yellow dress that looks like a long t-shirt, and like the other girl, she has a lot of plastic jewelry. She has a splatter of freckles across her face, framed by unruly red curls. This one, we’ll soon find out, is named Rhonda.
“Yeah! Want to help me build a sandcastle?”
“Yes! But you’re doing it wrong.”
“I am?” Connie frowns.
“Yeah. But here, I’ll show you my way. It’s the best way.”
“Okay!”
The girls begin building a sandcastle, with Rhonda doing more bossing than building. Neither of them know where their friendship will lead them, and they wouldn’t even think to question it. Right now, all that matters is that they’re two kids having fun.
Rhonda stares at the framed picture in her hand, feeling conflicted. She didn’t know she even still had a picture of her and Connie, until a deep cleaning of her room had brought it to the surface. She should throw it away, but for some reason she can’t get herself to.
She remembers the way Connie nicknamed her Ron because she couldn’t pronounce her name. She remembers the way Connie was always by her side her right hand, until she started getting ideas of her own. She remembers the look on Connie’s face when she ended their friendship.
Rhonda remembers… But she doesn’t regret.
Things have changed, as things do. That’s not always bad, mind you, sometimes it’s just how things work. The small oak trees lining the sidewalk have been replaced with palms, much to Connie’s dismay. Most of the buildings appear more sunworn, though a few have fresh coats of paint. The girls are taller than they were that day at the sandbox, and they’re joined by two others: Keisha and Jill.
Connie is dressed in a similar style, though she wears less jewelry and her hair is cut above her shoulders. Rhonda is wearing nicer clothing, opposed to the casual t-shirt like dresses of her youth. She’s managed to tame her curls, pulling them back into a ponytail. Instead of pony beads, she wears a black choker.
Connie doesn’t notice these differences. The change has been slow, after all. But still, as she stares at Rhonda, she feels as if she doesn’t recognize her at all.
“Ron, come on, we’re friends-“
“Not anymore. I’ve told you, if you’re not with me, you’re against me. You need to go.”
