no themes. or search. yet. i didn't work on it at all during winter break LOL
fiddled around with github workflows (I HATE github workflows) to get it up on github pages… and yeah! it works! looks good too

This is really nice!
However, the emojis are very blurry - mainly because image-rendering is set to the (non-existent for me) property optimizeSpeed, instead of pixelated.

Edit: Setting pixelated makes the rotation effect a little weird.

whoops! I am aware of the rotation effect and the lack of fixes to it, but I've pushed changes to add the favicon and fix the image-rendering property.

Yeah so apparently none of emoji's are loading for me, I'm thinking it could be a browser problem since I've had similar issues with some other pages mainly because of edge.

My browser / operating system: Windows NT 10.0, Chrome 120.0.0.0, No Flash version detected

I'm experiencing the website for the first time right now so this is mostly written as I find stuff
  • WOW, that looks incredible! I love all the little animations, like how the emojis tilt when you hover over them.
  • Big fan of how the missing emojis are displayed. Having them greyed out alongside the pixelated designs just feels… right.
  • More options are always a win in my book. HTML and Markdown tags are a welcome addition.
  • And how could I forget the category tabs? These make the website so much easier to navigate quickly, not to mention the little icons representing each category.
Overall, FANTASTIC work on the new website! Forumoji has never looked better.

The site looks amazing!!!
huh. were… were you camping the github repo??
No? I guess I was lucky enough to click on it the moment it went live! I just read up on the last post in my notifications and double checked to see if it was up! I thought it musthave been up for a while but I guess not

For me, the emojis showed up fine, but once I closed and re-opened the site they all turned to question marks. Mabye a caching issue?
My browser / operating system: MacOS Macintosh X 10.15.7, Chrome 120.0.0.0, Flash 32.0 (release 0) Edit: nvm it fixed itself somehow

Edit: I noticed that the emoji set that currently being used (to display the “Not Contributed” emojis) is missing many of the latest emojis like pee pod, wing, ginger root, and others. How difficult would it be to switch over to something more mainstream like Google's Noto Emoji? It's one of the first few to get updated with the latest emojis from Unicode. (as opposed to others that could take months)

So, how will contributing work in the future? Obviously not everyone can access the cubeupload account.

I'm gonna have to manage the uploading myself, but I'll make myself a quick private portal to upload to CubeUpload quickly.

Speaking of emoji images, I'm using githubusercontent to fetch them, which I don't know how to cache. I'll look into that.

you can do whatever you want with the emojis; they're all currently hosted on cubeupload as
https://u.cubeupload.com/fmji/[codepoint, lowercase, no u+ and no dashes or spaces].png
so it should also be simple to find them

as for performance… haha… yeah I need to work on that

https://gh.vercte.net/forumoji hosted on github pages & built with a horrible tech stack of webpack + ts + react so performance may be a bit iffy for now

I noticed this as well.

There is a semi-official fork of that emoji set that's more up-to-date, and earlier today I created a pull request to switch over to it.

However, you do raise a good point— Google is generally very quick to update Noto with the newest emoji designs.

If you on Linux, press Shift+Ctrl+U, type UTF-16 encoded code of emoji and press Space or Enter for emoji!

Windows also has an emoji picker, and so does MacOS. However, emoji don't work on the Scratch forums.
