When Flag Clicked (Tutorial Website)

Header by -Xanimation-

Website Status: Down (Backend work is currently being carried out, www.whenflagclicked.org is non-functional at the moment.)

About

https://www.whenflagclicked.org
When Flag Clicked is a website where Scratch members can upload their own Scratch tutorials. It was created because we saw a need for a one-stop place where someone could go and know they would find any good tutorials they needed. Because members make their own tutorials as opposed to just one person making them all, there will be a wide diversity in the types of tutorials and the topics covered. When Flag Clicked has already been in development for a few months, and will likely be public in another few months. It will feature account creation, voting on tutorials to be featured, and various other features. When Flag Clicked has a youtube channel as well, where the best of the best tutorials will be turned into video tutorials for anyone to watch. Once the website is complete anyone will be able to upload their own tutorials for anyone else to see!

Contribute!

You can view a list of contributors here: https://www.whenflagclicked.org/contributors

Want to contribute to the project? We could always use more help! If you are good at HTML, CSS, or JS, then we would love to have you on the project! Or maybe you are good at web design or know a lot about the technical side of websites. Of course, not all jobs need to be super advanced, you could just help come up with new ideas for the website or help to spread the word around Scratch about When Flag Clicked! If you would like to contribute simply visit https://github.com/FlagClicked/FlagClicked

Lead Team

The people that contribute most to the website and help guide the other contributors.

Lead Developer

TheColaber? (Possibly changing soon.)

Since joining the project TheColaber has been the most important part of our success. They have poured so much of their own time into this project, they deserve the most credit of all. TheColaber appears to no longer be actively working on this project, a new lead developer is currently being discussed and considered. This, of course, does not rule out TheColaber from the team. If free time ever allows, and he decides to begin work again, he is more than welcome.

Founder / Lead Designer / Financial

TheStrykerJay

Yup, it's me, I originally came up with the idea for this project back in February of 2021, I also designed the overall layout of the website and how it would look, and am currently paying for the domain.

Sounds exciting! In what form will these tutorials be in (eg video, text)?

Text. The users will make their tutorials in markdown. We have a tutorial up on using markdown on the website as well, so if they don't know it then that won't be a problem.

Update: We are planning on implementing a system where users can give tutorials “Stars” so the more stars a tutorial has, the higher up it will appear on the list of tutorials or when you are searching for a tutorial. This is useful because it means the good tutorials will be easier to find, and because the it provides some incentive to make better tutorials.

I might contribute some tutorials when this releases. I just have to make sure I have the time to do it and remember to do it in the first place.

I'm going to assume that it's not just going to be plain text. You will have image/video embed/project embed too?

They will be just text for the time being… we may allow other kinds of tutorials made in the future.

What other types of tutorials could there be? We already kind of have video covered because I was planning on turning the top tutorials into videos for the youtube channel, so…

videos, text, and scratch projects are what I had in mind… Although because we are using MD, users can easily embed these things themselves…

Scratch projects embedded in the tutorials would be better I think. Then they can have their tutorial and show off an example of the finished project.

Will there also be Scratchblocks support? I wonder if something like the “Add to backpack” button could be done by downloading a sprite3 file

They could also embed template projects

Not sure, there is no set date yet, but I would guess in a month or two.
