I don't think you know, but “glad you understand” is a common term that people in hotels and businesses use when a discussion is over which implies that both can continue to work. I've been using it for the past few months and nobody has called me out for it “being mean”, and you are the first one. It's not meant to be mean, but extremely sorry if it seemed so.

All i'm trying to say is that if you say “glad you understand” it could come off sarcastic. At least that is what I thought of when I read it. It could come off rude especially to a person who wanted to work for. (I am saying all of this with a kind expression and not trying to be rude.) there are better ways to tern somebody down.
