Could I animate a FMV intro for the game at some point after we decide the story?

We are using a top-down style, not a 2D side-scrolling one. But it's a nice engine. The story sounds kind of Legend of Zelda tbh

I don't see why not. Could I animate a FMV intro for the game at some point after we decide the story?
I think it's better to use a more original story. It sounds quite like Zelda, and it's clear that “Magikar Kingdom” is a reference to Pokemon in some way. I also don't like the idea of the character having a set name and gender; instead, I feel like the main character should be customizable in almost every aspect. The story we had before (with crystals, spreading powers to land leading to issues, etc.) was a little better. If you could improve upon this, that'd be great. Possible Story- Hoshi is a young lady in the Magikar Kingdom minding her own business, when all of a sudden, a wisp named Solaris tells her of an ancient evil named Cyran Nox that was sealed in the Bladallix Sword, has been awakened, after he broke the curse that sealed him. But I literally have never played a Zelda game outside of the first and second one? Plus, the whole Magikar Kingdom was just something I made up on the fly. I also was unaware we had one before. Could you repost it?I think it's better to use a more original story. It sounds quite like Zelda, and it's clear that “Magikar Kingdom” is a reference to Pokemon in some way. I got a story idea:
You awake in a mysterious cavern. The only thing you see is a strange creature destroying some crystals. You get up, and the monster approaches you and knocks you out. When you awaken, you are inside of a prison cell. Now, you must escape the prison and find out what is happening in this strange world, as the colour drains from it. Do puzzles and fight monsters to get shards, which can be used to replenish the colour in some parts of the world and unlock more of the story.

Fights are not in the physical here. Most injuries are not to the body, but to the mind. You see, there are two types of beings - formagicae, and formateria. Formateria typically have minimal magical capabilities, instead relying on attacks on the physical plane. However, a Formagicae is capable of accessing the Magitio, or the dimension of magic. Magitio is a parallel to the Matertio, or the physical world - however, due to the severe instability of the Magitio, a being cannot transport its form there - its presence on Magitio is a shadow of their mind. A being would need to have immense power through the consumption of another being's mana, or magic essence, contained in their mind (and in the case of formagicae their bodies) in order to fully exist on Magitio - however, if they could exist there, the being would be free to shape the world to their will, affecting both Matertio and Magitio. However, only one such being has ever existed - and only one CAN. In order to gain sovereign power over Magitio, thus becoming the only being that can reshape it on a whim, they must slay the current sovereign and then have more mana than any other being in the world. If any other being had more mana, they would claim sovereignty automatically. The last Sovereign was a Formagicae, by the name of Magidaem. Magidaem was never fully defeated, however. When he was struck down, instead of fading into a reservoir of mana on Magitio, like most beings do when they die, his existence was shattered. These fragments littered Magitio, until an ancient monk used a sacred art to access Magitio remotely and bind each fragment to crystals in Matertio, thus preventing any possibility of freedom for Magidaem. But that's enough about the past - the present is all that matters. I said fights are not in the physical, and that is correct. Fights are a purely mental manifestation - as most beings in the world want to avoid physical injury regardless, as no matter how much the mind is damaged, it will not die from severe injuries - the injuries must inherently be fatal themselves. There is no bleeding out, or dying of poison or infection. Only if a mind gave up or overtaxed itself would the mind die, and so fighting was a lot less… messy. As a result, Formagicae drag any combatant they face to Magitio, forcing their minds to manifest, where the fight can take place without collateral damage. Formateria, if they fight, tend to fight in Matertio, however even then it is rare, as Formateria will establish mental contact through Magitio automatically if they are roughly teenagers or older.
If this became canon, then the game could be called Magidaem - and while the character's name would never be said directly (he is basically He Who Shall Not Be Named) depending on your actions, you could end up freeing Magidaem… and be forced to fight them.
Anyway, TL;DR:
Formagicae are mostly magic, with husk-like material manifestations that turn to stone upon death.
Formateria are mostly material, with very little mana, contained in their minds.
Magidaem is an ancient entity that gained godlike status but was defeated by an unrelenting Formagicae.
Matertio is the material world.
Magitio is the world of magic and mana, and only VERY powerful beings, typically Formagicae, can fully exist there.

Formateria are comprised mostly of matter, existing predominantly on Matertio.
BOTH types can use magic however, as they both have mana contained in their minds and/or bodies.
The closest thing to a villain would be Magidaem, an entity shattered into fragments which are each imprisoned in ancient arcane crystals.

If you're talking his intagratum (complete state), yes. All Formagicae have an intagratum form, however, typically they are only removed from their intagratum forms by taking physical damage, in which case their mana is scattered across Magitio until their mind restabilizes enough to recollect itself into one place and reform a material body through slight modification of Magitio. Then can I design Magidaem then? No, Formagicae are a specific type of creature, comprised mostly of mana, existing predominantly on Magitio.

This means you can technically complete the game, if you wanted, using physical violence on Formagicae, and it would have no effect, as the Formagicae would not die.
Here's an idea for the crystals - they only keep Magidaem in captivity so long as equilibrium is kept. If Magitio contains significantly less mana than is contained in all of the crystals, they will crack and eventually shatter. If all the crystals are shattered, Magidaem reforms, however, since he is anchored to the material world by the fragments of the crystals, the world doesn't instantly begin ending. He thanks you for liberating him, and then asks if you want to be his champion. If you say yes, you smash his physical form, releasing him on Magitio. If you say no, he attacks you and you have no choice but to defend and unintentionally let him smash his frail form. Either way, this results in him attacking you as per a normal encounter, however, he starts to mess with the game mechanics. They all are self-consistent, but the rules will shift. For example, one possible concept for this would be you HAVE to touch his attacks, or else you take damage. However, this would be one of the only cases he didn't abide by his own rules.

@Braxbroscratcher… That is the most complicated story I've seen so far for this game. Certainly would need to be more spread out in the final release for it to make sense instead of being dumped on you all at once. But I like the concept. The only other concept I want to bring into it is the crystals concept we've had since the beginning, all with different abilities that have spread to the land, causing chaos. I like the idea of two separate planes, and I'd assume this is mostly for the combat aspect of things. I think that's enough to start designing some concept art for an opening scene.

Yes, since the player would be a Formateria, they wouldn't typically access Magitio unless fighting. @Braxbroscratcher… That is the most complicated story I've seen so far for this game.
