The world, I guess? The corruption could be the darkness, and you need to get rid of it. Or you know we can take a totally different approach where the game is constantly dark and your character is the only source of light, I don't know.

Yeah, I felt like it's used a lot too. I sort of like the original concept of the major crystals not lighting up the world but doing something else, like powering up your character. Or we can remove the powering up aspect of it and make them do something else. I don't know, any idea is valid at this point.

How about this -
Each crystal is the physical embodiment of different forces. Over time, they began to intensify, and leaked into the land.

For example - if a crystal's ability was levitation, things would be floating. Floating Islands, water, creatures, people's houses, things you generally wouldn't want to be floating
