Sounds like a good idea. We need to write some dialogue or at least what the story is though.
Maybe have it so that the crystals were discovered a long time ago, but once people figured out that they could give you powers, a huge war started over them, destroying a lot of civilization? In the time the game happens, nobody should be able to know where it is except your character who accidentally finds it, and the antagonist is trying to find all of them, and they have magical abilities themselves too. I don't know, what are your thoughts?

A few 'lil tweaks. ;P

I think somehow the gems/rocks/artifacts whatever. XD There should be hundreds of “minor” crystals. These would still be hard do find of course, but they give you “minor” abilities. Such as boosts, minor… Ehm… “psycic” abilities… help me XD such as entity awareness (tingling or small static sensation in the direction of a flesh organism, spirit, or another crystal/gem up to 5 feet away. XP), luck, and other things that I can't think of atm.

The “minor” crystals would come from the “standard” crystals; the second rarest form. These would give you complete abilities, such as telekinesis, elemental immunity and complete control (but you can't control large things… such as a ocean or mountain XD), etc.

Then the final one; continental gems/stones/boulders. There is only 6 of them, one for each continent. Antarctica/Arctica would be fire ice, Europe; water, Asia; fire, North/South America; earth, Africa; stone/rock, Australia; plants/grass (I was thinking “weather” for Australia or Africa. Let me know what you think. XD). These can control entire mountains and can render a person near indestructible. Just overall OP. The abilities could be reduced to a standard crystal to support ten individuals.

Anyways, let me know what you think about that. XD

More improvements to concept:
Minor Crystals:
These crystals are rare, but collecting enough of a specific type will grant you upgrades to pre-existing abilities if you have them. If you don't, you'll get the main ability.

Standard Crystals:
These automatically give you a new ability based on the type. If you already have the type, you get an upgrade.

Major Crystals:
These crystals are needed to beat the game by using all of them at once at the end. However, during the main game, you can use these at any time to temporarily fully power-up an ability of your choice (you can never fully upgrade your abilities so that this thing will always do at least something). Ability lasts for two minutes. Five-minute (or more, I don't know) cooldown after ability runs out.

Thoughts on this?

I like it!.. but I think I like mine a bit more… both of them has their pros and cons. Yours would be excellent in the battle function/part of it, while mine focuses on the storyline a bit more.

Idk, perhaps I'm biased. ;P

Anything Else?: I am a really good programmer. my skill I believe is 8/10. i am active 9/10 (unless i am away). i have a new system (OSW) that would be really good for an RPG as it deals with lots of entities on the screen very well. if you think we should not use OSW because it is to complex, i can teach it to anyone. OSW is compatible with anything pen (text generators, effects, ect.). ScriptedAwesome i think is mad at me at the moment because i implied that my platformer script is better than his.

Accepted! But about OSW, it seems a little too complicated, but I'm sure the “condensing” aspect of that could be of great help.

i cant kill the complexity without killing the condensing aspect of it… but again, i can teach.
