Cloud data not connecting?

Ok, I'm having the same problems.

I can't play anything with Cloud Data in it.

Can you try installing an even earlier Flash 23 version?

If that doesn't work, then it'd be worth adding the line “EnableInsecureSocketPorts=1” to Flash's mms.cfg file.

On Mac it's in directory /Library/Application Support/Macromedia
On 32 bit Windows it's in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
On 64 bit Windows it's in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
(For Linux… well, who knows…)

NOTE: this is not a permanent solution, since it's a potential security issue (the words “Enable” and “Insecure” should be a bit of a giveaway…), but it'll show that's basically where the problem lies…

Note to everyone having the cloud problem:
If you would like to edit projects, signout, load the project, edit, then resign in. This removes the need to ever load cloud variables while still letting you edit the project.

If we needed one more attack on cloud lists, this overload should do the trick.

Internet Explorer: No dice. Entire browser content area plain white. (Was fine in latest Flash.)
BTW, I'm assuming you completely quit and relaunched Chrome since you installed 24.0.0.186?

The blank white rect thing in IE is, I think, a typical reaction when it knows there's a more recent version than the one you're using – it ‘helpfully’ refuses to run the old version, in case you get caught out by whatever security problem it had… There may be a way to ‘force’ it to use the old version, though (I don't know how in IE offhand, but I know I can do that in Firefox just by clicking the rect – it then brings up a warning to tell me it's an old version, but do I want to run it anyway).

So, is it just a glitch, or do I have to change which version of Flash I am using?

The installer sat there and sulked until I quit all browsers.

I've just tried that, and mooched around in IE settings, but didn't get anywhere. I found a news article saying that from last October IE blocks out-of-date Flash versions. They describe an override like your Firefox one, but I'm not being offered that, so I don't think the white rectangle thing is IE getting bolshy.

It looks like it's a change in Flash. The port used by projects to connect to cloud (531) is blocked in the latest version of Flash.

The Scratch player is supposed to fall back to polling the cloud server every second or so if it can't get through on port 531, but my guess is that the change is breaking the player in some way that was never expected, and so it isn't dealing with the situation correctly.

Since port 531 is now switched off anyway, I would think all the Scratch Team might need to do at this point would be to simply disable any attempt to connect in that way, falling straight back to the slower polling method (which is the only method that currently works anyway).

You can try re-installing the previous version of Flash (and then you probably have to somehow tell the browser to ignore the fact there's a more recent version of Flash available, otherwise it may block the old version and just show a blank white rect instead).

Would be interested to know how you, or anyone else, gets on with that…

But would it be fixed in the future, or will I just have to go back?

Yes, it will be fixed.

But the question is when?

I suspect the ST will give it pretty high priority (they are aware of it), so it should be “soon”. But whether that means it'll be within the next day, or it'll take a few days, who can tell…

Ok, good. If they know about it, hopefully they'll fix it…

It looks like this is happening for a bunch of users (me too), so it could have to do with either Flash, the type of computer that they have, or just a glitch that Scratch is trying to work out.

I am not a New Scratcher, and was given the Scratcher status a very long time ago. I have played cloud projects before. This started yesterday when I was editing one of my latest cloud projects.

My browser / operating system: ChromeOS 9000.50.0, Chrome 56.0.2924.53, Flash 24.0 (release 0)

I'm having this problem too,

Not quite true…

You can work around it by uninstalling Flash and then reinstalling the previous version (24.0.0.186).

Alternatively, you can (temporarily) add a line to Flash's mms.cfg file which tells it to connect to insecure ports.

Neither are good/permanent/ideal solutions, and it's really the Scratch Team who need to fix the Scratch player so it no longer attempts to connect to cloud on port 531 (or make it cope sensibly with the exception raised by Flash when it does).

However, after I updated to latest Flash 24.0.0.194 (which, as expected, caused all cloud projects to freeze when connecting to cloud), either of the above ‘fixes’ caused all such projects to work again just fine.
