Remove project size limit
I am working on updating Traffic Run Redline by adding new cars and music, but a pop up appeared and it said: Sorry! Adding the media asset would put this project over the size limit by 5283 KB. Please remove some costumes, backdrops, or sounds before adding any additional media . Can you please fix this error in order to remove size limit so that I can update my game ( https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxy.canberra.edu.au/projects/86749920/ ) . I know that everybody wants to update games, but the project size limit is annoying me that I should remove other costumes. Please help me!

Actually,1024 for all of them, not 1000. Let's do some math…Sorry everyone…
With almost +10,000,000 projects shared, and about 56,185,458 unshared projects, Scratch is growing each day. Let's estimate each project takes up about 1 mb
1000 kb = 1 mb
1000 mb = 1 gb
1000 gb = 1 tb
66,185,458,000 kb
66,185,458 mb
66,185.458 gb
66.185458 tb
Now, each project gets 1 gb,
66,185,458,000,000 kb
66,185,458,000 mb
66,185,458 gb
66,185.458 tb
Now, that seems unrealistic, right? Now, lets hop to 2017, when Scratch has more users and more popularity, and there are 1,000,000,000 projects.
1 gb per project.
1,000,000,000,000,000 kb
1,000,000,000,000 mb
1,000,000,000 gb
1,000,000 tb
If you have 1,000,000 Terabytes laying around, I'll support, but as of now…
No support

Those are for gibibytes, tebibytes and mebibytes. They are different measures from gigabytes, terabytes, and megabytes.*snip*

I can see the reason they have a size limit, but I really wish the limit was increased. The limit is 50 MB, but I'd like it to be say….. 80 MB. This will make my TWHG 9 tough. Might need more than 1 project (Sorry for being a little off - topic.)

If they increased the project size limit, I would be happy to update Traffic Run Redline's cars and music. I always love to update the game and I do enjoy Scratch. Scratch would increase the project size to 200 Gigabytes (GB) .

They should make 2 servers
1 for projects under 50MB half the size of an app
1 for projects over 50MB but under a terabyte (1,000 gigabytes obviously)
so we can have lists the size of 2,500, 500 sound files, 1,000 sprites and 1,500 backdrops

If the Scratch website doubled more Servers, All of them (including Sound Files, Sprites, Backdrops) will be increased to 4,000 Sound Files, 6,000 Sprites, and 8,000 backdrops. I will be happy with Unlimited Storage for more content while making new games.

It's a lot easier to tell someone else to do the work. So what exactly are we asking for?
1 for projects under 50MB half the size of an app
1 for projects over 50MB but under a terabyte (1,000 gigabytes obviously)
so we can have lists the size of 2,500, 500 sound files, 1,000 sprites and 1,500 backdrops

Being the generous people we are we only require space for 500 sound files, 100 sprites and 1500 backdrops. Scratch isn't designed so you can make Skyrim on it. How did you end up “requiring” 500 sound files?
Scratch happens to be run on donations. I'm not sure if they can fulfil this small requirement of “unlimited storage”.

It would be very useful if you're trying to make AMVs like I do.
Maybe about 75mb instead of 50.
An increase in the space limit: Support!

I don't like this Idea because has anyone ran out of space on a project? Anyway this would make the website more laggy which I don't want.

I want to add more music in Traffic Run, but it said “Sorry! Adding the media asset would put this project over the size limit by 2111 KB. Please remove some costumes, backdrops, or sounds before adding any additional media” I don't like the size limit. We should improve Scratch by increasing the limit to 5 TB (terabytes). If the size limit increased, I'll add new music!

If you read the comments, you would know that yes, many of the people commenting have run out of space. I don't like this Idea because has anyone ran out of space on a project? Anyway this would make the website more laggy which I don't want.

Ok! I get that it's frustrating/annoying running out of space on a project, but let me show you guys the logistics:
So, there're 19,041,415 projects on Scratch. Now let's assume that the ST is prepared for every single one of these projects to hit the data limit. 19,041,415 * 50 = 952,070,750 Megabytes of data. Now let's assume that the ST uses a WD Black 6TB hard drive. 952,070,750 Megabytes of data is 952.07075 terabytes of data. That would take 159 hard drives to store. Each of these hard drives costs $300, so you're looking at about $47,700 for servers with the data limit AS IS!
Now let's assume the ST is nice and raises the data limit to 80 Megabytes. Well 19,041,415 * 80 = 11,523,313,200 Megabytes of data, which is 1,523.3132 Terabytes of data. That's 254 hard drives, or about $76,200!
So server costs would rise about $28,500. And since more projects are being created everyday, the ST must also have a budget on hand for when the combined amount of data of all the projects becomes larger than their available server space. Meaning they'd need at least $300 on hand at any given time. So to upgrade the data limit to 80 Megabytes, you'd need at LEAST $28,800.
TL;DR No support, because you'd need at least $28,800 to upgrade the project limit to 80 megabytes.
